Angela's in a good mood today. "Morning, Sam! Isn't it nice that we get to work in the library?"

"Hi Angela!" Sam greeted her, setting his book aside. "It's really nice. Just like the lovely girls who work here."

"That is really good to hear in the morning," Angela grinned. "So. Homecoming court, huh? It's so random and weird for me."

"Me too. I certainly wasn't expecting it," he said. "But I'm not surprised where you're concerned."

Angela thought about arguing with him, but decided just to accept a compliment for once in her life. "Thanks. It's kind of weird to know people think that about me, but a good kind of weird," she said.

Dean headed down to the library after Lab to check on his brother. Between the radio embarrassment yesterday and the prophecy assignment this morning, he really wanted to see how Sammy was doing.

"Hey," he greeted when he walked in. "Whatcha reading?"

"Catcher in the Rye," Sam replied, holding the book up so Dean could see it. "And hey to you too." He knew he was probably being checked up on, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to talk about whatever Dean was checking on.

Dean settled one hip on Sam's desk. "So I heard the radio yesterday," he began.

"If you even think about mocking me for that, I will chuck the heaviest book I can find at you, I swear," Sam said quickly.

"Do you see me mocking?" Dean asked, holding up his hands in a 'whoa now' gesture. "Has anything remotely mocking fallen from my lips?"

"No," Sam admitted. "I just thought you were winding up to get there."

"Well I'm not. I just was winding my way up to asking how you're doing dealing with that."

"I'd be doing a lot better if I could yell at Barbossa and punch Alec in the face again," he said shortly. "But I'm okay. Dawn helped a lot last night by pointing out that everyone gets made fun of, and it's not just me."

"That's true. And hey, if Barbossa does it again, I bet you can get Dad to carry out his threat to castrate him."

"I can't believe Dad actually called in." Sam groaned. "I can't believe he was listening at all, and heard that!"

"Yeah, not exactly what I pictured as Dad's choice for easy listening," Dean admitted. "But hey, he cared enough to come to your defense."

Sam shrugged. "He was probably just embarrassed on his own behalf, to hear the family name being thrown around with insults to manhood like that."

Dean rolled his eyes. "What does the man have to do to make you believe he cares anyway?"

That question caught Sam a bit off guard, and all he could do was shrug. "I know he cares," he muttered.

"Do you? Because you don't act like it."

"Well he doesn't always act like it either," Sam replied defensively.

Dean stared at him.

"What? He doesn't," Sam said, staring back.

Dean shook his head. "Y'know, I never knew you were that willfully blind."
