Criminal Justice [first period, Tuesday]

"Good morning," V said smoothly. "As we have been studying, our current judicial systems are rather rigorous in most cultures. However, they are, in many ways, an improvement. There are, for instance, governments that employ secret police, or have employed them in the past. These organizations rely heavily on fear - and people should not fear their governments. Governments, rather, should be afraid of their people."

"And one reason why," he said, pacing slightly as he picked up some papers to pass out, "is because of what is commonly known as the mob mentality. Years ago, it was the way justice was carried out, and even to this day, public outcry can sway an entire nation. Sometimes not for the best."

He started to pass out a pair of handouts, as well as a small card on each desk. "Today we are going to study one of the less productive, yet nonetheless historical, means of exacting justice. Three of you are 'witches' - your cards have a 'W.' The rest, you have a blank card. Your jobs are to accuse one another until you locate what you believe to be a witch, and bring him or her before me, as I am the acting judge. If you have enough evidence and have located one of the actual 'witches,' you will be awarded with one of these." V held up a box of cookies.

"And witches," he added, scanning the room. "You must do your best to blend in and deflect attention away from yourselves."

[Okay, so basically, this is a game of he-said, she-said. You say, "So and so is a witch for this reason!" And people can hop on your bandwagon, or the accused can reply. When you've gone through a reasonable amount of that, ping in the "Trials" thread and V will listen to the reasoning and give out cookies if you have one of the three "witches."

There are three people who have OOCly been contacted and asked to be "witches": [livejournal.com profile] x5_alec, [livejournal.com profile] once_a_king, and [livejournal.com profile] bridge_carson. Naturally, your characters have no way of knowing this, so accuse whoever. And your logic for why they're a witch can be anything. I expect crack and silliness, not meanness, please. And work together, of course! I'll be around most of the day, with small patches of AFKness in the middle of the day.]

"Peter Pevensie is a witch," Seely stated.

Peter rolled his eyes. "Come up with a new song, Booth. This one's getting old."

Alannna spent a good five minutes figuring things out before it clicked that she wasn't a witch for this assignment.

River looked at Alanna and smiled.

"Alanna's a witch," Dean said. "She's got a black cat. Everyone knows that black cats only belong to witches."

Alec shifted a little in place, unconsciously edging the back of his shirt higher on his neck. He was grinning though, and looking around somewhat predatorily.

"I think you're a witch." Alanna informed him, sounding a lot more sure than she felt.

"Okay, you're definitely a witch," Dean told him, grinning at him. "You've got that whole doppleganger thing going on and since I know I'm not a witch, that means you must be."

Damn, the one person John knew was an actual witch had left the country. Speaking of that, he made a note to do something later.

Still, he eyed everyone and wondered if Aeryn was the witch.

"Crichton's a witch. He bathes in his underwear."

"You're a witch for the same reason Alec's a witch," Dean informed him. "You're a doppleganger." He grinned suddenly. "Except when you disappear entirely and Johnina suddenly appears. That's damn suspicious if you ask me."

Mindreading was a good way to find out who was a witch or not. The more she thought about it however, the more it brought back bad memories of witch trials.

Memories could be so vivid. River hid under the table.

"I think River's a witch," Tyler said, his voice gentle for him. "She wouldn't be under the table if she wasn't fr- upset, and she wouldn't be upset unless she was one."

Peter went for the easy accusation. "Charlie Kawalsky's a witch," Peter said. "He knows what kind of magic he's done before."

"It's called the magic of love and there's no law against it. I can't help it if women are drawn to me. It's a natural talent."

Planet full of weird people, seriously. Aeryn just shakes her head and watches them and would love some actual hard evidence.

Teddy briefly contemplated turning into a newt and then accusing someone of doing it to him, but tossed that idea aside.

Watching everyone was much more fun.

"Teddy's a witch," Alec said, smirking. "He can shapeshift, which is obviously a kind of witch power."

This was the exact opposite of the way Dean'd been taught to really look for witches, but throwing out baseless random accusations to see who acted the most guilty was a hell of a lot of fun. He looked around and tried to decide who else he could accuse.

"I think Jack's a witch," he finally settled on. "All that charm? Witch powers."

Luke looked around the room. "Bridge is a witch," he said. "He thinks by sitting on his head and makes machines do unnatural things."

Ulterior motives? Nah.

[identity profile] bridge-carson.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"You can move things with your mind," Bridge points out. Ignoring the fact that he could too. But Luke didn't know that. "That's a pretty good indication of a witch."

"Dean is totally a witch," Layla piped up, smirking. "Look at how he's accusing everyone else. He's totally trying to push all of us off of his track."

"Definitely," Alec agreed, nodding. "And not even all that well - it's pretty obvious he's just trying to cover up."

"Bridge is a witch," Alec said confidently. "Why else would he wear gloves all the time? And the powers he has? Clearly witchcraft."
