"Good morning," V said smoothly. "As we have been studying, our current judicial systems are rather rigorous in most cultures. However, they are, in many ways, an improvement. There are, for instance, governments that employ secret police, or have employed them in the past. These organizations rely heavily on fear - and people should not fear their governments. Governments, rather, should be afraid of their people."

"And one reason why," he said, pacing slightly as he picked up some papers to pass out, "is because of what is commonly known as the mob mentality. Years ago, it was the way justice was carried out, and even to this day, public outcry can sway an entire nation. Sometimes not for the best."

He started to pass out a pair of handouts, as well as a small card on each desk. "Today we are going to study one of the less productive, yet nonetheless historical, means of exacting justice. Three of you are 'witches' - your cards have a 'W.' The rest, you have a blank card. Your jobs are to accuse one another until you locate what you believe to be a witch, and bring him or her before me, as I am the acting judge. If you have enough evidence and have located one of the actual 'witches,' you will be awarded with one of these." V held up a box of cookies.

"And witches," he added, scanning the room. "You must do your best to blend in and deflect attention away from yourselves."

[Okay, so basically, this is a game of he-said, she-said. You say, "So and so is a witch for this reason!" And people can hop on your bandwagon, or the accused can reply. When you've gone through a reasonable amount of that, ping in the "Trials" thread and V will listen to the reasoning and give out cookies if you have one of the three "witches."

There are three people who have OOCly been contacted and asked to be "witches":

bridge_carson. Naturally, your characters have no way of knowing this, so accuse whoever. And your logic for why they're a witch can be anything. I expect crack and silliness, not meanness, please. And work together, of course! I'll be around most of the day, with small patches of AFKness in the middle of the day.]

Alec shifted a little in place, unconsciously edging the back of his shirt higher on his neck. He was grinning though, and looking around somewhat predatorily.

"I think you're a witch." Alanna informed him, sounding a lot more sure than she felt.

Alec cocked an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "What makes you say that?"

"You're acting shifty."

"Right," Alec said dubiously. "I don't even like magic, much less practice it."

"Plenty of witches are afraid of/don't like magic." Alanna spoke with confidence. And experience.

"I don't have a magic bone in my body." Alec spread his hands, grinning. "You're welcome to check for yourself, if you want."

Alanna blushed and changed tactics. "You have a not-twin. That's definetly unusual."

"Around here?" Still grinning, he leaned slightly closer to Alanna. "C'mon, that's not so unusual. How many not-twins have there been before us?"

"So? They could all be witches." Alanna stood her ground. Mostly.

"Considering how none of us knew our twin before we came here? I kind of doubt it." Alec smiled. "Wanna know who I think is a witch?"

Alanna gave him a sideways grin. "Enlighten me?"

"Bridge." Alec glanced over at him, then back at Alanna, conspiratorily. "Now there's a guy with strange powers."

"Okay, you're definitely a witch," Dean told him, grinning at him. "You've got that whole doppleganger thing going on and since I know I'm not a witch, that means you must be."

Alec looked momentarily annoyed, then smirked. "Hey, I'm not the one who goes around salting doors and windows or switches bodies with people unannounced. Your background is much more indicative of witchcraft than mine."

"Knowing how to protect myself doesn't mean I'm a witch. Just the opposite really. And just because you're genetically enhanced doesn't get you off the hook. Maybe you were genetically enhanced to be a witch."

"In a universe with no magic I've ever seen? Nowhere I could've learned it," Alec said, shrugging. "You though, you've had commerce with dark powers -- ghosts, demons and things. That's pretty witchy if you ask me."

"'Commerce with dark powers'?" Dean echoed. "Who the hell talks like that? Except for a witch."

"Dude, you're the one who messed up that spell before," Alec said pointedly. "Probably something about you being a witch interfering with it."

"We don't know who messed up the spell. Could've been your witchy self."

"I seem to remember Willow being pissed at you for screwing it up," Alec said curtly.

Dean snorted. "She's a self proclaimed witch. Like I'm really going to take her word for it."

"Maybe she just recognizes her own kind," Alec said, eyeing Dean.

"If she did, she'd be more likely to deflect suspicion away onto the innocent non-witch instead," Dean pointed out.

"Maybe she's territorial," Alec retorted.
