Flight Club, Monday, 4 pm in the flight shed

It's the first time Aeryn's opened the flight shed herself, and she tries not to think too much about that as she sets up and waits for the others to arrive.

When they do, she greets them with, "If you don't already know me, my name is Aeryn Sun, I'm former military, spent a good part of the last three cy- years piloting a fighter ship and was doing so as late as this February. You've all shown at least a little interest in flying and learning how to do it, so this would be the place for it. Now I'd like you all to introduce yourselves, tell me what experience you have, and if there's anything in particular you'd like to study here, I'll see what I can do to get it."

She gestures to the simulator and says, "You'll also be able to get into the simulator this time. It's called a Prowler, and this is what I'm used to flying. It's used for reconnaissance and battle, and you'll even be able to operate weapons systems. Luckily you can't really shoot anything, no matter what your experience. If you need me for anything, I'm around."

Luke strapped himself into the simulator and gave the instrument panel a quick study. "Weapons, navigation, comm, gravity control, right?" he asked, pointing to the correct systems.

"Very good," Aeryn says. "Give you another fifty microts, I'm sure you could figure out the other controls, but i doubt you'll need them today."

Aeryn gives a short rundown of how one would start up the Prowler, glad this has to go better than the last time she tried to instruct someone on the startup.

Evie very carefully approached it, biting her lower lip, eyes huge. "I can't break it? I mean. I might be-- a tad clumsy."

Aeryn is more than a bit terrifying. Evie's sole experience with girls like her is watching films like Amazon Women from Mars. Nodding vehemently, she carefully climbs into the cockpit, just managing not to knock herself out.

She sits there hyperventilating for a moment. "Right. Um. What do I push first?"

Aeryn has a whole new respect for Anakin at the moment. And every flight instructor she's ever had, come to think of it. "Here is your startup, your propulsion, navigation, and weapons. I will point them all out again, don't worry," she says, and goes into a very basic explanation of how to start the simulation.

Naomi rather nervously climbed into the prowler, even if it was just a simulator she didn't want to think about what could go wrong.

Naomi briefly went over them but couldn't recognise any of them, "they're different to what I'm used to," she replied

"That's all right," Aeryn tells her, and proceeds to point out ignition, propulsion and navigation. "You'll use weapons later, but that's mainly what you'll need right now. Got it?"

Peter bit his lip as he strapped himself into the simulator. He was going over every single thing he'd learned in the workshop and trying to apply it to the different controls in front of him.

"I wouldn't say that, but it feels the slightest bit familiar," Peter replied with a slight smile. "Navigation, propulsion, startup?" He pointed to the controls.

"Very good," she says, and she's always glad when they can figure that out themselves. "And since you can't actually crash in here, ready to use startup, or do you need more time?"

Alec slid into the sim and strapped himself in, looking over the instruments. He may have been kind of excited to try out something new.

"You sound like you should have no trouble at all," Aeryn tells him. "Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the controls and you can begin whenever you're ready."

Alec saluted Aeryn with a grin. "Will do!" He took another moment looking them over, then flipped on the appropriate switches, humming under his breath as it started up smoothly.

As he ran the sim through its paces, he glanced at Aeryn. "Think we might get another chance to go into space sometime?"

"It's possible. Since this is only a club and not a class, I might have a hard time getting it past the administration," she says. "And right now some of the people scare me and we aren't even off the ground. I appreciate you not being one of them."

Broots strapped himself in and stared. "Can I use my usual method of 'hit the random buttons and see what happens?'"

"No," Aeryn says immediately. She proceeds to point out the buttons used for startup. "Those are the only ones you're going to need to be touching at the moment."

"Yes, but in the off chance that I can ever get all of you into space or even the air, it would be good if you could not crash a real ship," she points out.
