Flight Club, Monday, 4 pm in the flight shed

It's the first time Aeryn's opened the flight shed herself, and she tries not to think too much about that as she sets up and waits for the others to arrive.

When they do, she greets them with, "If you don't already know me, my name is Aeryn Sun, I'm former military, spent a good part of the last three cy- years piloting a fighter ship and was doing so as late as this February. You've all shown at least a little interest in flying and learning how to do it, so this would be the place for it. Now I'd like you all to introduce yourselves, tell me what experience you have, and if there's anything in particular you'd like to study here, I'll see what I can do to get it."

She gestures to the simulator and says, "You'll also be able to get into the simulator this time. It's called a Prowler, and this is what I'm used to flying. It's used for reconnaissance and battle, and you'll even be able to operate weapons systems. Luckily you can't really shoot anything, no matter what your experience. If you need me for anything, I'm around."

Luke was there precisely on time after finishing his lesson with Isabel. He was practically glowing with excitment.

"I'm Luke Skywalker," he said, "and I've been flying since I could walk, it seems like. I'm currently a starfighter pilot."

Luke strapped himself into the simulator and gave the instrument panel a quick study. "Weapons, navigation, comm, gravity control, right?" he asked, pointing to the correct systems.

"Very good," Aeryn says. "Give you another fifty microts, I'm sure you could figure out the other controls, but i doubt you'll need them today."

Aeryn gives a short rundown of how one would start up the Prowler, glad this has to go better than the last time she tried to instruct someone on the startup.

Luke nodded, then followed the directions exactly. He grinned as the simulator roared to fake life.

"This has got a little more pull to it than the X-Wing," he said as he ran it through a quick exercise.

"I'm Peter Pevensie," Peter said. "I took Anakin's Flight workshop this summer, but that's all the experience I have. I'd just like to be able to fly better and more."

"Is that anything you have a problem with?" Aeryn asks. She doubts it. She had minimal difficulty getting used to the ones from his, she can't imagine it would be that difficult in reverse.

Luke shook his head. "I've adjusted," he said with a smile, then put the Prowler into a spin. "See?"

Evie smiled a little more confidently, seeing a few familiar faces. "Oh! Um, I'm Evie Carnahan. And I haven't even ridden in an aeroplane. But I'd really like to? I didn't sign up at the fair, but Luke said I could come along today."

Evie very carefully approached it, biting her lower lip, eyes huge. "I can't break it? I mean. I might be-- a tad clumsy."

Aeryn is more than a bit terrifying. Evie's sole experience with girls like her is watching films like Amazon Women from Mars. Nodding vehemently, she carefully climbs into the cockpit, just managing not to knock herself out.

She sits there hyperventilating for a moment. "Right. Um. What do I push first?"

Naomi rather nervously climbed into the prowler, even if it was just a simulator she didn't want to think about what could go wrong.

Aeryn has a whole new respect for Anakin at the moment. And every flight instructor she's ever had, come to think of it. "Here is your startup, your propulsion, navigation, and weapons. I will point them all out again, don't worry," she says, and goes into a very basic explanation of how to start the simulation.

"Startup, propulsion, navigation, weapons. Startup, propulsion, navigation, weapons," Evie chants under her breath. Right. She can ignore weapons, she doesn't need those. Gulping nervously, she carefully hits the right buttons in sequence, and takes a whole of the steering.

Going straight up at ninety degrees is probably something everyone does their first time, right?
