Criminal Justice [1st Period, Tuesday

"Good morning," V greeted quietly from the shadows when everyone had arrived. "Today we shall discuss the Judicial system of the United States, as well as due process."

He continued on in a low voice for a few minutes, hitting high points like the Miranda warning, trial by jury and the fifth amendment to the United States' Constitution, and stressing the fact that while their homes may be found in other places, the States is their home for the time being and thus is the system with which to chiefly concern themselves.

"However," V continued, "there are very definitely two sides to the law, and at least two parties to consider. Hence...we're going to engage in an activity."

He gestured expansively. "One half of you will be criminals who have been apprehended for a crime of your choosing. The rest of you will be the arresting officers, of sorts. Accused students? You are to attempt to escape arrest via whatever means necessary - nonviolent, please, but lying, cheating, conniving, negotiating...all of these are encouraged. And arrestors? You are to be fair, but stand by your principles and do your best to keep them from escaping, please."

He glanced at the roster for scarcely a second before saying, "If your surname, or only name if you have a single name, ends in an N or an R, you are a criminal. The rest of you are officers. Please pair up."

ETA: Due to various things, we're shorter on cops than we are on robbers. So extra robbers, please team up, or crash a thread to help one of the others escape. My apologies for apparently not being able to count or something.]

Bel held out his wrists. "Damn, and I was going to tell you I surrender and to slap them on."

"I'm sure we can find a way to improvise," Seely said. "But in the mean time, I'm going to have to ask you to turn around and assume the position."

Bel hung his head and sighed in resignation, then turned around to face the wall.

"I'm afraid I'm going to have to frisk you." Not that Seely'd had any experience with being the frisker instead of the friskee. "After all can't take the chance you're concealing any dangerous weapons on your person. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt until we get to the body cavity search."

"Promises, promises," Bel snickered. "But I'm afraid I can't let you search me."

"You can't?" Seely asked. "Buddy, I'm the guy with the badge here, I'll say if I'm allowed to search you or not."

"Well, you can try," Bel said. He waited.

"Smart move." Seely went to start patting Bel down.

~~Tempting as it was to stay still,~~ Bel shimmered about three feet to the right and turned around, crossing his arms and smirking at Seely.

Seely blinked, then recovered. "Oh, a wise guy. Look, kid, you're in enough trouble as is without adding resisting arrest to your rap sheet."

"You gotta catch me, first," Bel said, batting his eyes innocently.

"You run, I chase? That it?"

"You couldn't catch me if you tried," Bel challenged. "Only way you're putting your hands on me is if I let you."

Seely took a slow, measured step towards Bel. "That a challenge or an invitation? Because I'll be happy to add solicitation to the charges."

Bel kept a wary eye on Seely as he approached. "Just what are the charges anyway?" he asked. "I was just minding my own business here."

Seely took another step. "Oh, sure minding your own business, that's what all the punks say. But you know as well as I do there are laws about that kind of behavior."

Bel got ready to shimmer again. Sure would be funny if Seely lunged at him and got nothing but wall instead. "You're just wasting your time trying to catch me," he said. "Wouldn't you rather be doing something more fun or interesting?"

"Don't really know if I share your idea of fun," Seely grinned. "Because, really, lewd acts in public with goats?"

Bel blinked then snickered. "Well, you know, you gotta make the sacrifices more interesting somehow."

"And another thing, I know we got the whole freedom of religion thing, but could you at least use your own goats?" Seely sidled closer. "We've had I don't know how many livestock theft complaints about you."

"Well, they run if they know what's coming," Bel said, shrugging.

"Let's face it, who wouldn't?" Seely asked, leaning against the wall next to Bel. "I suppose you have some way of getting them, without earning a horn to the...well, you know?"

"To tell the truth," Bel said, "I prefer virgin sacrifices, but around here all we have is Blair and he's not quite my taste."

"He not horny enough?"

Well, Seely thought it was funny.

Bel snickered some more. "That might be part of the problem, yeah."
