World History in a Nutshell

The classroom is dimly lit and there's a projecter set up to a laptop.

"Good morning," says Daniel, beaming all around. "Today, we're going to be touching on Ancient Egypt. There's packets on your desks with information about mummies and health and --" His face clouded and he frowned slightly. "gods. You can look at all that in your leisure, but first, I'm going to talk to you a bit about my dig in Egypt this summer."

Daniel has a power point presentation and everything which would have been done had the mun not fallen asleep yesterday. It's mostly pictures of sand. And more sand. And yes, you guessed it, sand. Daniel's highly enthusiastic about it, however, as he babbles on quite happily for half the lecture.

"Okay, for the second half, I apologize to those of you who aren't used to computers and also to those who took Egyptian archaeology last year, as you'll have already played a couple of these games. There's a choice of three to play, so have fun and talk to me if you have any questions or need a hand."

Build a pyramid

Make a Mummy

Death in Sakkara

[[ooc: Huge apologies for this being so late up; work and calling schools got in the way this morning and I wasn't at all functional last night to get it up then like I was planning]]

Molly took a few notes, but she was more often just doodling in her notebook. It looked like she was taking notes though. If you didn't look at her notebook, that is.

Chad scribbled down the notes that seemed important:

Sand.

Sand.

Hey. More Sand.

Sand that is slightly more yellow.

Sand that is slightly more brown.

There is a snake in that sand.

Pyramid? Nope. More sand.

But he's footnoted the important notes with things that resemble other notes that might actually have some significance.

Jim's own notes may have indicated that he has had it with these [expletive deleted] snakes in this [expletive deleted] sand.

With a sideways glance toward Jim's notes, Chad was glad to see that someone else was recording this imperitive information with as much dedication and attention as he was.

Lyra happened to glance over at Chad's notes and was grateful for the acting ability that let her turn a guffaw of laughter in to a not very convincing coughing fit.

Evie is trying to write down everything new at once, because she didn't know all those things about the Incas, although the mummification process is old hat, and it's all so interesting, and finally she has to ask, "Dr. Jackson? Do you think it's possible that, maybe, there could be an archaeological site on Fandom Island? Perhaps? Only I heard there used to be pirates here...."

Jim was trying to figure out who to copy notes off of, his roommate or Evie. He waffled for a while before scootching slightly closer to Evie and trying to stay awake in class.

Evie looked up and saw Jim, then hesitantly smiled at him. "It's really not that bad, is it?" she whispered.

Jim smiled back, shaking his head. "No, not really. I guess." His tone was very grudging. At best.

Evie beamed at him. "Quite true! I suppose something only a couple decades old could qualify, couldn't it? As long as its origins are unknown."

She's trying very hard to sound grown-up, but the pencil-tapping and happy smile aren't helping. "If, if we looked in city hall, perhaps would could find records of something?"

Once she saw the nature of today's lecture, she immediately sat near Evie. She wasn't adverse to taking advantage of other people's expertise.

Dean turned around, about halfway through the lecture, having taken sporadic and uncertain notes at best. He mouthed "Help!" at Lyra, a look of mock-horror on his face.

Lyra grinned at his stricken look. She mouthed back, "Just write 'sand' a lot."

"Hello, Lyra!" Evie whispered, pleased to see her. "How was your weekend?"

"Good. This is your specialty, right?" Lyra asked quietly.

Dean eyed Evie's fervent note-taking with immense relief. Somehow, he wasn't entirely sure his notebook page with "SAND!!!!" printed almost hysterically across it would do him much good come exams. At least now he was pretty sure he could get help from the cute Egyptologist-in-training who conveniently lived next-door.

Evie waved happily to Dean and held up a piece of notebook paper that said, Pyramids, yay!

Hermione takes very careful, detailed notes. A couple pages of them, actually.

Blair took notes and then after checking out Evie and Hermione, took more notes.

Lyra looked worried and waved at BLair to get his attention. She pointed to her arm, to his arm, and mouthed, "Are you okay?"

Re: Daniel's lecture

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Blair mouthed "I'm fine" and scooted his chair closer to hand her a pen. "Wanna sign my cast (http://lovechildblair.livejournal.com/25002.html?thread=371882#t371882)?"

Sam would have been content to just write "SAND!" a lot, but he was determined to take at least as many notes as Blair, Evie, and Hermione, so he ended up getting a bit more elaborate.
