If there was one thing Darth Vader excelled at, it was making a memorable first impression.

He waited until the classroom was full, then stalked in, cape flaring behind him.

He twitched his fingers as he reached the center of the room and the door slammed shut behind him.

"I am Darth Vader," he intoned over the even mechanized breathing of his suit. "I trust you have already heard of me." His masked face scanned the faces in front of him. If he was at all affected by the negative thoughts and emotions being directed at him, he wasn't showing it. "You will refer to me as either Darth Vader or Lord Vader. Any other address will result in detention." He began pacing the room. "You should be grateful for that. Very few have ever been granted advanced warning of my actions.

"Today we discuss how far over the line you would go to save someone you love." Vader's voice turned cold. "I don't want to hear that you wouldn't go over a line. Would you lie for someone? Steal for them? Kill for them? Does it matter to you if it's friend or family? Does how much you love--" and yes, the word sounded awkward coming from that particular visage, "--that person affect how far you would go for them?"

Vader crossed his arms over his chest and waited for the first student to speak.

"I'd do it. I've done it. Better question is what I wouldn't do. Including extermination."

Vader was deeply unimpressed by this answer.

"That wasn't the question," he snapped. "Elaborate on the information I asked for. Don't give me something I don't care about."

"Everything I had to do. Depends on love, depends on final results."

"You wouldn't know the final results," Vader replied, clearly impatient. "Let me provide an example. Your mother and your best friend are both being held hostage at different points on the planet. If you do not intervene, they both will definitely die. If you do intervene, it's possible they will die anyway. What do you do?"

"~~Save my best friend because he's my dad. Or, he will be.~~ Send half the troops to clean up the mess Mom left and rescue my best friend, guns blazing."

Vader slammed his fist down on top of John's desk. "Did I say you had troops? Or weapons?" he demanded. "You do not. There is only you. Think!"

"You also did not say that I did not have anything at my disposal. So if I'm standing equidistant from both hostages without equipment, then any choice I make is moot since without resources, by the time I get to either they'll both be dead. Or to put it in better terms, I choose to save the one in best strategic position."

The desk's top cracked under the pressure Vader put on it. "You dare to talk back to me?" he boomed, completely ignoring the rest of John's response.

"Detention," he snapped, "and be grateful that Principal Washburn has discouraged my...normal reaction to such a tone."

"Washburn has that effect of altering the perameters of one's programming."

Despite the fact that JOhn's visibly sweating, he's not backing down.

"So your normal reaction is to break school property, robot?" He tries to keep his voice carefully neutral.

Can't kill them, can't kill them, can't kill them...

"I'm no robot," Vader replied sharply, taking a firm hold on his temper. "And your bravado in no way impresses me. I've killed far smarter people for far less. Ponder that in detention."

With that, Vader swept to the other side of the room, paying John no more attention than he did the broken desk.
