Fandom High Library, Wednesday, 9/6

Angela came in a little late, clutching a mug of chai and a bagel like lifelines. She loaded a copy of the Sims into her "new" laptop and started trying to keep a very whiny miniature couple alive.

The library was open.

After Ms. Readman came in, Angela put a stack of applications on the counter and waited to see who would appply.

Bridge wanders in to the library, killing time since he doesn't have any classes except Hunting, and that's not till last period.

"Hey, Angela."

Angela saved her game and looked up. "Hey, Bridge. Looking for someplace quiet?"

"Yeah," he smiles slightly. "I don't wanna be by myself, but I don't wanna be surrounded by people either, right now. So... library."

That got a tiny smile. "It's been kind of a downer couple of weeks." She pointed to the shelves. "We have, um, books and stuff."

"Books are good," Bridge notes. "Do you know if you guys need any more help in the library this semester?" he asks, after a minute of silently going over a shelf of books on computer repair.

"The new librarian's going to hire a few more people," Angela said. "I think she's finalizing the forms now. Why, are you looking for a job?"

"Yeah," Bridge nods. "Hasn't been much call to repair stuff lately. So," he shrugs.

"I guess everyone who wants an appliance that dispenses candy has one," Angela said. "Shame. Anyhow, I'll call you when the applications are out."

She squinted curiously, suddenly aware she had spent a lot of time with Rory and almost none with Bridge. "Are you doing okay, with -- stuff?"

"Only when I don't let myself think about how much I miss him," Bridge admits.

Angela winced. "Sorry. Have you heard from him at all?"

"No," Bridge shakes his head. "There's no way to- emails and phone calls won't get through."

Angela gave him a long look at that. "Freaky," she said. "I'm so, so sorry. Do you know why?"

"There's... stuff he needs to do, in his time, I guess. It can't happen if there's interference," yeah, that's a bit of bitterness on that last word, there.

Angela made a face at that. "I'm guessing a boyfriend from the future is interference," she sighed. "Yeah. Next year I'm not letting any of us leave. We'll stage sit-ins in our dorms."

She remembered the aide applications and ppassed oone over to Bridge. "Here."

"Oh hey, thanks," Bridge says, taking the form and puzzling over what to fill in for "favourite book". "I approve of this sit-in idea."

"So you wouldn't mind not getting to be a senior?," Angea asked. "Or, you guys can be seniors and we'd be super-seniors."

Bridge laughs. "I like that. Or, you guys could all be TAs for classes."

"That's it," Angela declared firmly. "Or we stage a sit-in until they stick a college on the island."

"Fandom University has a good ring to it."

"It really does," Angela agreed. "I can move to New York later."

"Sounds like a good plan." Bridge says firmly. "Fandom needs a few more years of Angela before New York gets to have you."
