It's entirely possible that Daniel is looking a wee bit jetlagged at the front of the class and is clutching at a cup of coffee like it's a lifeline.

He smiles as the class files in, leaning against his desk. Once they're all seated, he begins.

"Good afternoon and welcome to World History in a Nutshell. I'm Dr. Jackson, and I'll be taking you through this whirlwind tour of the history of Earth. On your desks is a copy of the tentative syllabus

First of all today, I'd like to go around the room and have everyone do a quick introduction so I can put names to faces."

After that was done, Daniel dimmed the lights.

"We're going to start off with an easy class on prehistory today. I have a documentary, which is about human evolution.

Once that's finished, I'm happy to take any questions and then you can take the Caveman Challenge. I'll be interested to see what percentage you'll get at the end."

Evie couldn't figure out how to move the mouse and work the site right away, until she leaned over and watched Broots and then Cameron. So she ended up getting a 54% and looking like she was going to cry. "Dr. Jackson? I, I'm afraid this is the first time I've used a computer. I don't want to make excuses, but could I possibly do some extra credit?"

Daniel looked stricken over at Evie. "I'm so sorry, I didn't think about people not knowing how to work computers," he said. "Don't worry about it; this game is only for fun really. If you wanted to come and see me after class, or during my office hours I could give you some basic help with computers? We're going to be using them a fair amount this semester with more games."

"Oh," Evie gave a breath of relief, and beamed at him. "Oh, thank you so much, yes, please. I should have asked about this before, I suppose, but everything is very new to me here. I'll stop by after class, then."

Daniel smiled back. "It's not a problem," he said. "Are you one of the students who's from a different time?"

Evie turned bright red, and suddenly didn't know what to do with her hands. "Umm, yes. 1916. I'm going to catch up very quickly!" she hastily added. "Only, I'm afraid I might have to ask for extra notes, so I don't assume what I know about history is still accepted as fact."

Daniel nodded. "I see," he said. "Well, the last five weeks of the syllabus will be very new to you. I'll be happy to help you in my office hours, or if you wanted to set up any other revision session. The important thing is that you understand the material."

Oh, he's so *nice*. Evie bounced a little in her seat, and beamed at him, nodding. "That would be very much appreciated, Dr. Jackson. I do so want to do well here."

"You're welcome, Evie," said Daniel. "I like seeing my students do well too, so it all works out really."
