World History in a Nutshell - Week 1 (09/04)

It's entirely possible that Daniel is looking a wee bit jetlagged at the front of the class and is clutching at a cup of coffee like it's a lifeline.

He smiles as the class files in, leaning against his desk. Once they're all seated, he begins.

"Good afternoon and welcome to World History in a Nutshell. I'm Dr. Jackson, and I'll be taking you through this whirlwind tour of the history of Earth. On your desks is a copy of the tentative syllabus

First of all today, I'd like to go around the room and have everyone do a quick introduction so I can put names to faces."

After that was done, Daniel dimmed the lights.

"We're going to start off with an easy class on prehistory today. I have a documentary, which is about human evolution.

Once that's finished, I'm happy to take any questions and then you can take the Caveman Challenge. I'll be interested to see what percentage you'll get at the end."

[[ooc: Crashing soon and thus will pick up tags when I awaken again. Will also be working from ~2.30- ~10.00 EST]]

Cameron got 95%. He was on the home straight to Homo Sapiens. Good to know.

Blair did excellent even though his mun refused to make the poor caveman eat the termites.

Sam was a little disappointed that he only got an 80%. Stupid animals not being scared by his fire.

Hermione is deeply upset that she only gets a 90%. So she looks around, sees that everyone else is still busy, and tries again until she gets 100%.

Evie couldn't figure out how to move the mouse and work the site right away, until she leaned over and watched Broots and then Cameron. So she ended up getting a 54% and looking like she was going to cry. "Dr. Jackson? I, I'm afraid this is the first time I've used a computer. I don't want to make excuses, but could I possibly do some extra credit?"

"Oh," Evie gave a breath of relief, and beamed at him. "Oh, thank you so much, yes, please. I should have asked about this before, I suppose, but everything is very new to me here. I'll stop by after class, then."

Evie turned bright red, and suddenly didn't know what to do with her hands. "Umm, yes. 1916. I'm going to catch up very quickly!" she hastily added. "Only, I'm afraid I might have to ask for extra notes, so I don't assume what I know about history is still accepted as fact."

Oh, he's so *nice*. Evie bounced a little in her seat, and beamed at him, nodding. "That would be very much appreciated, Dr. Jackson. I do so want to do well here."

Molly was very happy with her 90% considering how badly she'd done in certain parts of the game.

Dean laughed at his horrifying mishap with the tools part, considering tools were probably the thing he knew most about. He still managed a 94%, though, and was on the road to Homo Sapiens. Right.

"Just barely. All the sharp rocks looked the same, but apparently, they weren't," he said, turning to Dr. Jackson with a smile. "I got it eventually, though."

"Hey," Sam said as he glanced over at Dean. "I was wondering if we'd be in any of the same classes."

[identity profile] deanforrester.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey," Dean said with a quick smile. "Me too. I'm guessing we'll have to get used to being mixed up at least occasionally by teachers."
likethegun: (i'm smiling to the left)

"I'm used to being called Dean by people who don't know my family well enough to tell my brother and I apart, so that won't be a problem for me," Sam said, smirking.

Re: Caveman Challenge

[identity profile] deanforrester.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Good point! Well, I'll have to get used to it, then. Or just write DEAN on my forehead or something," he said with a shrug.
likethegun: (i'm laughing while looking down)

"We need name tags, I think. Just until people get used to the difference. Marker on your forehead is a bit drastic."

Lyra is just as confused as Evie, but watches over Blair's shoulder, and plays until she gets the hang of it. Her first try was abysmal, but she figured that one didn't count. On her second go, she scored a 93%.

Re: Caveman Challenge

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-09-04 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Broots was very proud of his 85% in the game. And his 100% in the 'Get the astronauts to Mars' game as well.

Chad had gotten a 72%. He would have thought he'd score much lower on the evolutionary scale, and then pondered deeply the irony of using a computer to simulatate and guage cavemen knowledge.
