The Library [9/4]

Yomiko arrived at the library bright and early, a cup of coffee from the Perk in hand. She was pulling a little wheeled suitcase with a very nice briefcase strapped to it. She set the briefcase on the desk in her office and did not open it. Then she opened the suitcase, took out the books she'd taken from the library the week previously, and set to work reshelving them.

It was her first real day of work at this job. She hoped everything went well.

Yomiko reshelved the books, then took a seat behind the desk with a biography of Mata Hari.

Yomiko was poking around on the library computer. What was up with all these stored searches for romance novels?

Now she's folding origami cranes out of Post-Its and making them fly around her head.

Back to the biography of Mata Hari. Wow, Nancy hadn't been very trustworthy the first time around ~~either~~, had she?

The library is closed for lunch. Yomiko has retreated to her office to eat safely away from the books, but the door is open if the aides want to join her.

Back behind the collections desk, Yomiko rearranged the office supplies, including a little stack of bookmarks.

Yomiko thinks she might be getting this librarian thing down, even if she's not made any headway on her investigation of Special Collections.

As Yomiko got ready for the end of the day, she wandered through the shelves again, picking out reading material for that night.

THe new school year meant it was probably time to meet her new boss. A little skeptically, Angela came into the library fairly early in the day and looked for the new librarian.

It had tro be the person playing with the library computer, right?

"Hi, are you Ms. Readman?"

Yomiko looked up at the red-haired girl and smiled. "I see my reputation precedes me. And you would be...who, now?"

"Angela Chase," Angela supplied. "I'm one of the aides you kind of inherited from-" she frowned. "Three librarians ago. The other one's Rory Gilmore."

After World History, Hermione comes in, heads straight to the history section, and comes back with a few books on ancient Egyptians and the Romans. She figures she might as well be at least somewhat knowledgeable in the subject before class.

Of course, for Hermione, 'a few books' means about eight.

"Angela!" Yomiko cried. "Oh, yes, I met your boyfriend the other day. Wow, you do go through librarians around here, don't you?" She might look a little worried about that.

"Good afternoon," Yomiko greeted the girl. "Is there anything I can help you with? Or do you already have it all figured out?"

"I more or less know my way around by now," Hermione smiles, putting her books up on the counter. "I don't think I've seen you in here before."

Angela looked sheepish. "We had two with fur in a row?" she ventured. "And since you look pretty fur-free, you might last. I hope." She didn't want to deal with a fourth librarian before she graduated. "How did you meet Marty?"

Rory shyly stepped into the library before class, carrying a cup of coffee and looking around curiously. "Um, are you Ms. Readman?"

"Yes, that's me," Yomiko said with a smile. "And who might you be?"

"Fur? Really? Wow. I hope I last, too. Oh, he was at the coffee shop the other day."

"That would be because I'm new. I'm Ms. Readman, the new librarian." Yomiko set to checking out Hermione's books, tucking a lucky bookmark inside one of them.

"Oh, it's good to meet you," she says. "I'm Hermione. You'll be seeing me often."

"I suppose I will," Yomiko said, smiling at Hermione. She reminded her of herself as a girl, for some reason. Maybe it was the giant stack of books. "Enjoy these, Hermione."

"Thank you, Ms. Readman," she says with a smile, putting them in her bag for easy carrying. Her posture is going to seriously suffer someday.

"Have you ever considered a wheeled bag?" Yomiko suggested. It's the only thing that's saved hers.

Angela nodded eagerly. "One of them was blue and German and could teleport. The other one was an orangutan. They were nice, but..." She shrugged. "So do you have any plans for the library yet?"
