Library, 8/28

[agentthepaper]

Not being able to stay away one more minute, Yomiko had collected the library key from the office skeletons, narrowly avoiding freaking out all over the place. Really, skeletons? What kind of place was this? She unlocked the library and peeked inside. "Hello? Is anybody...oohhhhh..."

And then she was off, wandering through the stacks like a kid in a candy store.

((The library is open! Come meet the new librarian. No OCD, as it is still summer, la.))

"Possibly," Willow said. "Are you the new librarian?"

"Yep, that's me," Yomiko said proudly. "Yomiko Readman, at your service. You can call me Ms. Readman, though."

"Very nice to meet you," Willow said. "I'm Willow Rosenberg. You can call me Willow. Do you like chocolate chip cookies?"

Willow held out a Ziploc bag of said cookies. She figured it didn't hurt to bribe the librarian early.

Yomiko pushed her glasses back up her nose and bit her lip. "I shouldn't eat around the books..."

"You could save them for later when the chocolate won't make the pages all smeary," Willow said, in perfect agreement about how books should be treated.

"I could, couldn't I?" Yomiko said brightly, taking the cookies from Willow. "Thank you, Willow. This school is lucky to have nice students who'll welcome their new teachers." She went to the desk, found a post-it and a pen, and wrote in Japanese, Eat these up! Up up up!. She stuck the note to the bag of cookies as a reminder.

"I'm a big fan of libraries," Willow admitted. "I've also got a favor to ask, if it's not too soon."

"The cookies were a bribe, weren't they?" Yomiko sighed. "All right, let's hear it."

"I'm doing a book drive for libraries in need," Willow said. "I was hoping if maybe you found any books around here that the school was getting rid of, or that students didn't want any more, you could give them to me?"

Yomiko gasped. "You mean people are getting rid of books?"

"Freaky, I know," Willow agreed.

"That's crazy talk! As far as I know, the library isn't getting rid of any books, and it won't be while I'm in charge!" Yomiko flailed a little.

Willow looked a little disappointed. "Oh. Okay. Well if ever it does keep me in mind? For the sake of the other libraries?"

"Maybe if we get new encyclopedias or something...I'll let you know, Willow. Would you like a bookmark? They're good luck!" she offered, holding out a slip of paper with flowers printed on it.

Willow smiled again. "Yes, please! I can always use more."

Yomiko handed her the bookmark and said, "And if you put it in a romance novel, it'll make you lucky in love!" But then she looked emo for a second before shaking it off and beaming at Willow some more.

"Right now I don't think I can get much luckier," Willow said, with that smile she got whenever she talked about Peter. "But thank you very much. It was nice meeting you!"

"It was nice meeting you, too, Willow. See you around. Oh! And thank you for the cookies!"

"You're very welcome," Willow said as she left.
