Library, Thursday, 8/17

Angela comes in early and strangely alert for her next-to-last time in the library alone, at least until the new librarian starts.

And depending on who the next librarian is, it may be her next-to-last time, period. Because she's pretty much decided that if the next librarian is another one with fur, she's going to take it as a bad sign and quit before Special Collections eats her.

But today? She's mostly sorting through some new books that have come in over the summer and twirling on her stool while she waits for people to have bookish needs.

"See that's the problem by reading this in order. For instance under Brigands? It says 'See Pirates'. It's quite frustrating," Jamie said as he picked up volumes D & E of the encyclopedia."

"All eight species," Jamie replied. "Seven if you don't count the Asiatic stink badgers which recently were found to be genetically related to skunks than badgers. And yet nothing on how they used to keep pirates company during their long missions of plundering and rum drinking."

Jamie gave Angela a dubious look. "Now you're just playing with my head."

Jamie continues with the dubious look. "So how did the pirates keep them as pets. Were there leashe involved?"

"Both of course," Jamie said leaning on his hand eager to learn more about the days of yore with swashbuckling badgers and lobsters.

"Were there any famous pirate pets?" Jamie asked looking enthralled b y the conversation.

"Barjossakin?" Jamie said scratching his head. "Wow. That name sounds reeeeeaaaaaall familiar."

"Wasn't there a book about him and Jade flower? Wasn't she a ninja or something?" Jamie said looking perplexed. "I thought it was fiction."

[identity profile] multi-madrox.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really? Who was the author?" Jamie asked. "I may have to look that book up. Do you have it here?"

[identity profile] multi-madrox.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Jamie went over and pulled out what looked to be the right book and returned to the counter.

"It doesn't say anything here about it being based on historical events," Jamie said looking at the blurb on the cover.

"Yeeaaaaah. Right," Jamie said crossing his arms trying to act indignant. "You know it's not nice to tease people about their lack of badger knowledge."

Jamie burst out laughing. "It's okay. I should have known something was up when lobsters were mentioned. I think I'll take the 'D' and 'E' volumes this time."
