How to Win Friends and yadda yadda yadda [8/15]

Cox belts out a sharp peircing whistled and points for everyone to sit down in their seats. When everyone is at least pretending to pay attention, Cox begins his rant lecture.

"If you're like me? Chances are people are going to annoy you with their pesky personal problems that will distract you from your main goal in life. In order to deal with this issue you must learn to look like you care when really you don't.

Method One: Feign interest.
"Gosh Newbie. I never realized how wonderfully boring your life could be. Please tell me in excruiating detail about how your stuffed dog smells like pancakes."

Method Two: Barely acknowledge their existence
*grunt*

Method Three: Find a polite way to get out of the conversation while still making said person think you care about their feelings
"Go away Newbie."

Please pair up with another classmate. One of you will whine and emo about your life and the other will use all three methods outlined for you. Then switch."

Aeryn has no idea what she's talking about. At all.

She looks blank.

"I can't decide whether or not to buy or rent either. I need to talk it over with Janet first really -- providing she still wants to live with me," continues Elizabeth, hiding a smile at Aeryn's blank look. "I like the idea of owning something again. It just gives this feeling of permanence."

Elizabeth broke off and smiled at Aeryn. "Way too far out of your range of comprehension?" she asked.

"I was talking about standardized testing -- the SATs which most high schoolers take in order to get to college," explains Elizabeth. "Harvard is the school I'm hoping to go to once I've graduated Fandom."

"Yes, I've heard of it," says Aeryn, who hasn't seen a map to see how close she'll be to there in a year.

"Is John looking at it?" asks Elizabeth.

She shakes her head. "He's looking at some other place, but I think it's in the general area somewhere. Not sure, exactly."

"MIT perhaps?" suggests Elizabeth, mentally running down schools in the area.

Aeryn tries to remember, but all she knows is that it's initials, and there are certain things she hasn't told people yet. She doesn't want to do it in class. "Maybe? Um. So the next part of this is..."

Aeryn's quiet for a moment, thinking of something that's not too personal that she can actually talk about.

"Zack tried to hug me."
