Never one to say no to pizza and cake, Tempe grabbed a bit of both and headed to her usual table. Today, her nose was in a textbook, as she ate. Sure, it's the middle of summer, but that doesn't mean she can't start learning a bit early, right?

Cally entered the lunchroom. After grabbing some pizza, cheese fries, and cake, she ended up sitting across from Tempe.

"Hey," Cally said. "I don't think I've met you."

Tempe shook her head and then swallowed the bite of pizza. "Nope, I don't think so."

Then, sticking a hand out for Cally to shake, Tempe said, "I'm Tempe."

Cally shook Tempe's hand and smiled. "I'm Cally," she said. "You eat in here often?"

"Almost every day," was Tempe's reply, around a mouthful of pizza. She chewed and swallowed. "It's a way of attempting to be social, without actually going and actively seeking out people."

"A-ha," Cally said, smiling. "No wonder I've not really seen you around. Trying to be a hermit, huh?"

Tempe smiled shyly, a blush colouring her cheeks. "Yeah, that about covers it."

"I'm not really a social person. It just takes so much effort to go out and interact with people. It's much easier to just curl up with a book and get lost in the plot."

"Books are nice," Cally said, nodding. "I read 'em all the time. But you know, people can be nice too. If you find the right people, of course, it can be better than books, even."

Tempe nodded. "But at least books don't suddenly go off and abandon you without telling you they're leaving. And relationships with books are much less complicated and usually don't end badly."

It's possible that Tempe is a little bitter about people in general, and how she's been treated in life specifically.

"Still, I suppose you're right. Company from time to time can be nice. Especially with the right person."

Tempe grinned.

"And that's the key," Cally said. "Finding the right person. But hey, if you want to stick with books, I got plenty in my room if you ever want to borrow one."

"I think I already have. That would be really nice," Tempe replied, grinning. "Um, where is your room, anyway?"

"Five-Oh-Eight," Cally said. "You're totally welcome to stop by any time. Sharing books is, like, a law or something. You gotta do it."

Tempe nodded. "Gotcha. I'm in 317. And you're welcome to stop by and borrow my books as well, if you want. Anytime."

"I also bake cookies from time to time, if you're ever in the mood for chocolate."

Which, strangely, has nothing to do with books.

Walter came in after his trip to the library (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/963381.html?thread=51104309#t51104309) and set a stack of books down before he went to fetch a lot of everything to keep him company while he read, ate, and took notes.

Funny that, it had just occurred to Pippi that she hadn't eaten lunch in the Caf for a while.

"Hey you. Whatcha doing?"

"Doing something that means I don't have to go outside. I've done enough of that today." He shifted most of the books around so she could see their spines. Apparently he was preparing for war by learning how to arm one singlehandedly.

"How are you?"

Pippi shrugged.

"I'm a little worried about Phoebe and Bel... Other then that I'm okay, I guess."

Walter nodded. "Bel isn't going to do anything foolish, is he? It sounds to me that Phoebe's the way she is right now because of mucking about with spells she shouldn't have been."

"Like I said, he was talking about making a deal with the Sea Hag. Which has plenty of opportunity for foolishness."

"From my experiences with Bel, it doesn't seem as though he's the 'listen to reason' type." He shrugged. "If it were my girlfriend, I might not be, either."

Because he was always so rational when it came to Nadia, after all.

"I might listen to reason if it made sense," Walter said, good-naturedly making a face at her.

"If everyone would just accept that I know best, things would be so much simpler." Which was mostly a joke.
