Edmund is once again sitting on a stool behind the counter.

"Currying favor. It's a grand tradition. Call the person who curries favor well what you will, sycophant, lacky, brown noser - the fact of the matter is that the person who kisses up to the owner and the customer the best is the one who is going to get the promotions, the raises, and the days off when he or she asks for them."

Edmund stands up and favors the students with a smile that, by now, most recognize bodes ill for someone.

"Today you will break up into pairs and will be competing against your 'partner' for my favor. He or she who wins my favor will receive an All and Sundries gift certificate. How to win? Insult your partner, clean my shop, come up with a way to convince Baldrick to bathe, do something to make me happy. Succeed, and you win riches and possibly early dismissal. Fail, and you will be here for the entirety of today's session and I will send Baldrick to recite the grand tale of his great-grandfather's boil to you - the unexpurgated version."

Zack looked around for a partner.

Willow waved. "Hey, Zack. Want to be partnery?"

"Hey, Willow," Zack waved back. "Sure thing."

"Got any ideas of what we should do?" she asked.

Zack considered this. "It would be counterproductive to make each other look bad right away. Pehaps we should focus on making the other partners look bad first?"

"I guess," Willow said. Ever the optimist, she said, "Maybe by doing something that makes us look really good?"

"Well, yes, that works too."

"Why? What'd you have in mind?"

Cedric looks around for someone to partner with. And he's thinking of ways to gain favor while doing so.

Jaye waves. "You're my partner now, hi."

"Am I?" He waves back. "You're not going to make me lick any buildings, are you?"

"Hey, I did not make anyone do anything," she clarifies. "And also, do you think he'd like that?"

"Oh, I'm sure Mr. Blackadder would love to see you lick his building," Cedric tells her.

"I'm not licking anything. Have you seen who works here? You could, though."

"I'm afraid I won't be licking any buildings," Cedric tells her. "I enjoy my sense of taste."

"Hey, Alec was able to taste things afterwards," she says. "Though apparently Stickbug does taste gross."

Blair waited for his partner and looked around, trying to figure out what he would buy with the gift certificate.

"So, do you think if we screwed up and he got to yell and criticize that that would make him happy?" Dawn looked around the store. "There's lots of stuff we could screw up..."

"You know, that's probably a good idea." Blair smiled and bounced. "He does like criticizing people."

"So where do you want to start?"

"We could mislabel a section of the store." Blair eyed the glitter bins. "Maybe spell everything wrong so he could make fun of us."

"Oooh," Dawn said, impressed by Blair's criminal mind. "I like that idea. All we need now are markers."

Blair dug a few out of his backpack. "I've got markers. I think I'll spell blue B L O O. Sound stupid enough?"

Dawn took a marker and looked around. "I think that's perfectly stupid. Hmmm. Maybe I'll just switch the signs around," she said, as she replaced the eggs sign with the sign for umbrellas.
