Retail 101, Monday morning, All and Sundries

Edmund is once again sitting on a stool behind the counter.

"Currying favor. It's a grand tradition. Call the person who curries favor well what you will, sycophant, lacky, brown noser - the fact of the matter is that the person who kisses up to the owner and the customer the best is the one who is going to get the promotions, the raises, and the days off when he or she asks for them."

Edmund stands up and favors the students with a smile that, by now, most recognize bodes ill for someone.

"Today you will break up into pairs and will be competing against your 'partner' for my favor. He or she who wins my favor will receive an All and Sundries gift certificate. How to win? Insult your partner, clean my shop, come up with a way to convince Baldrick to bathe, do something to make me happy. Succeed, and you win riches and possibly early dismissal. Fail, and you will be here for the entirety of today's session and I will send Baldrick to recite the grand tale of his great-grandfather's boil to you - the unexpurgated version."

Willow pondered this. "If we got him to do it first that'd negate everybody else trying."

"But if they try and fail, then when we try and succeed we look better still."

"But what if they don't fail?" Willow pointed out.

"Good point," Zack replied. "Maybe if we tell him something dire will happen if he does bathe. He'll get plauge or something."

"It should be if he bathes with the others," Willow said. "Because then we might convince him to not do it when we say so. Oh! What about a bribe? If he only agrees to do it when we say so, he gets cookies."

"Or cake," Zack said. "Given a choice of cake or death, it could work."

"Cake is also acceptable bribe material," Willow said.

"Excellent, maybe tea as well? He does appear to be English."

Willow grinned. "I'm told tea is the solution for everything."

"And worst comes to worst, we could aways dump a lukewarm vat of it over him to rinse the muck off."

Willow assumed Zach was kidding. "Okay. How should we start?"

"I think that baths give you plague is a good starting point."

"We can try," Willow said and went to say hi to Baldrick (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/958204.html?thread=50719484#t50719484).
