Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

"Wow, you're all about the girlkissy, wifey," John says. "I should be jealous since we're fake married."

"No, you shouldn't," Rory said, rolling her eyes. "And remember, I don't want to die."

"I don't want you to die," John tells her. "I'd be sad because I'm John Gilmore, after all."

"I'm sure you'd carry on the Gilmore legacy sufficiently," she assured him.

"I so would! Gilmores would rule the land and I would make weetiny Gilmores...but not with you."

"Well, no, I'd be dead. Would they be weetiny Suns?"

John looks at her curiously. "That's what I want. They'd be pretty babies."

Rory nodded. "They would. I don't want children. Probably ever."

"You'd have cute kids," John tells her. "They'd be all smart and stuff."

"I don't like children," Rory said, shrugging. "They're scary."

"But they're so small and that's your blood and your genes that made them and making them is fun!"

"But they're your responsibility and they come out of you and they're scary!"

"They're tiny!" John says. "How can they be scary?"

"They just are! They're loud and what if you break them?"

"If they're loud, you pick them up and hold them and rock them," John says. "And the only way you're going to break a baby is if you decide to shot put the kid."

"I could drop it," she said seriously.

It's weird how this wasn't a concern when dealing with either of her tiny siblings.

"Not likely," John says. "Have you ever dropped your brother? Or someone else's kid?"

"No. But mine might be extra-wriggly or slippery!"

"Are you planning on greasing Little Gilmore up?"

"It wouldn't be little Gilmore. It would be little Gilmore hyphen...something."

"Are you planning on greasing Little Gilmore hyphen something up?"

"No. But what if it has oily skin?" she asked.

"Yes, Rory, your kid is going to come out with dermatalogical problems," John says seriously. "And a bad perm."

"See!" she said fretfully. "What if they have bad hair?"
