Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

"Actually...I am," he says seriously.

"Which one?" she asked curiously.

"MIT," he says. "It's in Cambridge."

"Huh. Harvard girl," Rory said, shrugging. "But I'm also kind of looking at Yale. Either way, same general area, kind of."

"Aeryn's coming with me," says John. "And we're getting dogs."

"What kind?" Rory asked. "I'll bring Vladdie and they can play. ~~And eat my canon Yalie boyfriend when he starts getting bad in late fifth season~~."

"A pug and the other one we don't know yet," John says. "They're going to be wee and small to fit into our apartment."

"I recommend papillons," Rory told him. "Apparently they follow people into the shower."

John laughs and says, "And I have the pictures to prove it. And they're not dirty. Just of Aeryn's face."

"Isn't the DRD kind of like a dog?" Rory asked. "I mean, I know they serve a purpose - Aeryn told me - but still."

"Robot dog, yeah." He nods and says, "He's coming too. He can clean up and do other stuff when we go up there."

"It's going to be a crowded apartment," she pointed out.

"I prefer cozy," John says, smiling warmly. "I like being close to Aeryn."

"Uh huh," Rory said. "Is she thrilled?"

"Sometimes it's hard to really say," John admits. "But she wants to be with me and I want her more than anything."

"You're lucky," Rory says with a small smile. "And I will totally visit you guys in Cambridge even if I wind up in New Haven."

John remembers what's going to happen to Rory soon and kicks himself.

"I'm sorry," he says quietly. "And you're always welcome to come and stay with us. I mean that."

Rory smiled. "Thanks. Vladdie too, right?"

"Vladdie's always welcome," John says. "He and Bertram are like BFF."

"That...does not surprise me. At all."

"Vladdie seemed to really like the sounds Bertram made and Bertram loved the flying."

"Maybe Bertram is the new Sean," Rory says thoughtfully. "Vladdie missed him for awhile."

"I miss Sean too," John says and frowns. "I miss Angel too."

"Me too. To both," Rory says, also frowning. "We should all go visit them!"
