Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

"That's very reassuring," he chuckled and put some more latkes on his plate. "I prefer my food the non-cannibal way."

"Don't we all?" Willow grinned. "Okay, so you've tried mine. What's your favorite here?"

Cameron looked at the table, seeing what was available. "Pot roast," he finally decided.

"Good choice," Willow said. She helped herself to some. "Oo - surprisingly tender for school-sponsored food."

"It is?" Cameron hadn't tried it himself, so it went on his plate too. "I think I'm going to be more surprised if we all walk out of here without bursting out into song."

Willow paused with a forkful of food on the way to her mouth. "Is that a worry? Nobody told me that was a worry."

"I don't know, it is kind of suspicious to have this much food and snow," Cameron shrugged. "There's got to be some catch? Or Fandom is just making me paranoid."

"I get the paranoia," Willow said. "I got detention for no good reason. You bet I'm paranoid."

"Yeah, we all go through that. It might not be too bad," he paused. "If the Chef has detention and you got to feed a muppet pig? Make sure there's no bacon in the sandwich," he advised.

"I don't usually work with bacon, but good to know," Willow said.

"No bacon or babies?" Cameron asked with a small grin.

"Or shellfish," Willow confirmed.

"I can get behind no seafood," Cameron said immediately.

"Allergic?" Willow guessed.

"Nah, I just don't like the taste," he shrugged and gave his pot roast a go. "How are you doing?"

"Still in panic mode about having detention," Willow said. "My record was clean!"

"I don't think they actually put that on your record," Cameron assured her and frowned, maybe getting slightly panicky as well. "I hope not."

Willow looked like she was ready to panic again. Possibly even hyperventilate.

Cameron reached out to touch her arm, hoping to keep her from panicking too much. "Do you want to find out? We could ask principal Washburn?"

"I had a clean record!" Willow said. "I was a perfect student!"

"You didn't do anything wrong," Cameron assured her. "It's just a lottery. I highly doubt they'll put that on your record."

Willow looked hopeful. "Promise?"

Cameron opened his mouth, but he wasn't entirely sure and he didn't want to lie. "I'm pretty certain, but I can try to find out for sure?"

Willow looked at him in a sad and pathetic fashion.

"I'll find out," Cameron promised quickly, trying not to flail because that was really sad and pathetic.
