Callisto had two lock boxes today, rather than just one. "Shoes in the first box, clothes in the second, everything except your underwear." The expression on her face suggested that anyone who objected would lose the underwear too.

After everyone had removed their clothing and placed it in the box, Callisto continued "If you spend a prolonged period of time in the wilderness, then it is more than likely whatever clothing you were wearing at the time will come under a considerable amount of wear and tear, especially if it wasn't designed for the environment you're in. The results can be… unpleasant to say the least.

"Luckily, it is possible to repair, and even make clothing from items found in the wilderness. Animal skins, some kinds of tree barks, vines, sinew. The possibilities, if not endless, are at least more varied than you'd think. Even luckier for you, I'm not making you hunt and forage for the raw materials.

"I think you can guess the rest of today's lesson. Use the materials I've provided to make garments to replace the ones you were wearing before. I know the equipment might be a primitive compared to what some of you may be used to, all bone needles and stone knives, but well, you'll just have to deal."

"Get to it," Callisto said. "And as an extra incentive, you're not getting your clothes back until next week, so make sure that you put a decent effort into the clothes."

Okay, so sewing was definitely not Anders's strong point, but he had a go at it anyway. Hacking away with a stone knife, he eventually ended up with a couple of pieces that, if sewn together properly, would amount to a sack with holes for his head and arms in it and what could only generously be called a kilt.

Now there was just the matter of sewing the things together. It was just that the whole "sinew" thing was really kind of grossing him out.

Tyler found an animal skin that was large enough to make a kind of kilt and cut it into a more-or-less-even rectangle, then wrapped it around his waist and secured it with a belt of braided vines.

He figured he could make it to the end of class without a shirt, and set to work trying to see out if he could make sandals out of bark. The hard part was finding wood that was solid enough to be walked on but still had some flexibility.

Peter couldn't find any pieces of skin big enough to use on their own. So he collected several smaller pieces or skin and laying them out, began cutting them into rectangles that he could sew together to make a kilt-type-thing.

Okay, Bridge did this last time, on the day he'd crashed the class. So doing it again isn't that difficult. He decides not to mess with success and sets to work recreating the same basic kilt-thing and shirt that he'd made last time.

Kilts did seem to be the order of the day. Walter tried to find a spot where he could work without getting completely fried by the sun and set about making himself one using leaves sewn onto strips of sinew almost like overlapping beads. The strips were then attached to a "belt" made of one of the remaining strips of leather in a sort of grass skirtish manner.

That done, rather than shoes or a shirt, he started trying to figure out how to make a hat. Just to be bloody minded and not do what everyone else was doing.

Anders grinned from where he was trying on his extremely haphazard kilt; he'd decided to forego the stupid sack-shirt for now, because hey, he could work on his tan a bit. "Should we make you one of those flower necklaces too?"

"Not unless you're going to make it an entire flower shirt." But hey, he could make a sort of poncho using the same basic idea of strips hanging from a belt around his neck.

"It'd dry up in the heat anyway," Anders decided. "Personally with this whole kilt thing, I'm more worried about what happens when my underwear in theory wears out."

"I'm just glad I wore some," Walter said, grinning over at Anders. "And I don't intend to ever end up in a situation where my theoretical underwear would wear out."

"Neither do I," Anders said with probably more emphasis than strictly necessary. "Which is a good thing, because animal-skin underwear would chafe, and leaves would cut, and either way that's too much pain and discomfort for me to deal with."

"The Scots don't wear anything under their kilts. You'd just have to make a good one." Maybe fur side in...

Rory picked up a pair of animal skins and tucked herself off to the side in the shade as she carefully sewed a sort of makeshift bikini. She'd learned from her mother, so her sewing wasn't that bad.

It was more the hiding away from everyone's eyes that was a problem. That, and trying to avoid the elements. She didn't need to be sunburned, thanks. Or bitten by bugs. 'Cause ew.

"You can always drape some of the skins over yourself while you sew," Dean suggested, seeing Rory trying to hide in the shade. "That's what I did last time."

"That's not a bad idea," she said, considering. "You don't think Cal'll get mad at me?"

She paused. "And what do you mean 'last time'? You're willingly taking the course twice?"

"Alce took it. And we had this whole bodyswap snafu which unsnafu'ed when he was in the middle of this class," Dean explained. "And Alec? Doesn't wear underwear."

"So I heard," Rory said, going redder even in the shade. "Poor you. I thought I heard something about that, though. Was it weird? I mean, bodyswaps in themselves are weird, but I think if I had to swap with anyone, Becky would be the easiest transition, for instance."

"Ewwwwwww." Rory wrinkled her nose. "No, she's a hooker. And crazy. Hence the whole Crazy Hooker thing. At least neither you nor Alec is a hooker."

Sam didn't know much about sewing, unfortunately. She took two medium-sized pieces into the shade because she was still all kinds of pale, lined them up, and began making holes in the sides with the bone needle.

D'anna? Never picked up a needle and thread in her life.

As such, she'd picked up some larger skins and was attempting to tie them together into a skirt. She'd worry about a top later.
