Arts & Crafts Workshop #2, Camp Dining Hall, 07.17.06, Afternoon

[OOC: Class Info Post is updated! Roster and all kinds of other stuff can be found there. Class Info Post]

"Okay, campers! As you may have noticed, it's very warm today. But you're not the only ones feeling the heat! Nay, there are also birds - and probably squirrels - to think about! That's why we're making bird baths to help nature get a break from the heat!"

"Up at the front here, we have clay pots and clay saucers of various sizes. It's simple enough to put them together: just put the saucer on the pot! And then the fun starts. We have paint, brushes, sponges, decals, and pretty much whatever else you might want to decorate a bird bath with! Do your thing, then use the sealer spray on it to preserve your designs!"

"You got a good start with your scrapbooks last week. This week, I want you to start detailing it with text. Whether you want to write about your experiences over the past week, or just use random words to express your feelings. Think about how you want to use them. Up at the front table we have colored pens, markers, old magazines you can cut letters and words from, scissors, and gluesticks. Get creative!"

Again with Hermione not exactly being creative. So instead she covers her birdbath carefully in blue paint so that it won't blend in with anything and birds will notice it.

She pauses, and asks, "Do you think they might be confused by it?"

"Okay, good," she says, obviously relieved.

Alec sat down to make his bird bath and stared at the two pots for a moment, trying to figure what to do with them. Sometimes inspiration just came slower than other instances.

"Havin' issues, bro?" Jude asked mildly, starting to cover his pot and saucer with strips of tape at haphazard angles to each other. And, because this was Jude, managing to get himself tangled up pretty effortlessly.

"Just not really sure what would make it a good birdbath," Alec said thoughtfully, then glanced at Jude and blinked upon seeing him tangled in tape. "You need any help?"

Jude shook his head, birdbath momentarily forgotten as he attempted to extricate himself. He got one hand free of tape and shook his other in an effort to dislodge the rest. Cue lots of frowning and tape transfer from hand to hand until he was finally rid of it. Victorious grin.

Molly took the largest clay pot and saucer available and took some red and white paint as well. Molly took several paper plates for mixing paint and made several different shades of pink.

Once she was satisfied with her mixtures, she pressed her hands in the white paint and made hand prints various places on the pot and saucer. Next, she pressed her palms in the lightest shape of pink and repeated the process. She went on this way with all the shades she'd mixed, ending with red.

It took James a good deal of searching before he found a container that would make a bath for any real bird. The little toy pots that most of the other students seemed to choose would barely fit a pidgey, and he was afraid that any fully-evolved bird would be entirely out of luck, the poor things.

He heaved the biggest clay saucer that he could find over to his workspace and started to paint it entirely white, leaving room for a large "R" on one side and wondering the entire time if Fearow and Pidgeot ever did have a chance to bathe around here, what with the puny dishes that were offered to them.

Broots entertained himself by randomly splattering paint on his pots.

Stark stuck a pot on a saucer and started painting it blue. With black and gold trim. Well, it started out as trim, but ended up being random designs after the paintbrush slipped. Ah well.
