"Good morning," Piper greeted with a smile. "You're going to make oatmeal cookies today. With raisins! Unfortunately, I didn't have time to make samples for you. Sorry. I did bring muffins, though."

She pointed out muffins she had purchased earlier at J,GOB. Then she handed the students a list of instructions. "As always, if you have questions, do not hesitate to ask."

Ingredients

1 1/2 Cup Shortening

2 Cups Brown Sugar

1 Cup White Sugar

2 eggs

1/2 Cup Water

2 Teaspoons Vanilla

2 1/3 Cups Flour

1 Teaspoon Cinnamon

2 Teaspoons Salt

2 Cups Raisins

2 Cups Pecans (optional)

6 Cups Oatmeal

Cooking Spray

Instructions

Preheat oven to 325 F.

In a mixer set on medium high combine and mix shortening, brown sugar and white sugar thoroughly.

Add eggs, water and vanilla on medium speed.

Add flour, cinnamon and salt on low speed.

Make sure that all these ingredients have been thoroughly combined.

While your mixer is still on low speed, add raisins and pecans.

Mix in the oatmeal.

Spray a cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

Use a teaspoon to shape the cookie dough into clumps.

Put the cookies on the middle rack and bake for 12-15 minutes.

Make sure not to bake them over 15 minutes.

Remove them from the oven and let them cool for at least 5 minutes before removing them from the cookie sheet.

Marie grinned. "Good morning," she greeted cheerfully, exceptionally glad to have her voice back.

"Morning," Bel said grumpily, much as he was glad to have his voice back, too.

"What's wrong?" Marie asked, starting to gather her supplies.

Bel glared in Piper's direction. "I don't want to be here," he said. "Would rather be in bed."

Marie raised an eyebrow and followed his glare. "Did you and Piper have a fight or something?"

"No," Bel said. "I just don't want to be in this workshop. I don't bake."

"Well then why did you sign up for it?" Marie asked.

"Piper blackmailed me," Bel muttered.

Marie really wasn't sure how to reply to that, so she turned her attention to her cookies. She'd dumped all the ingredients in the bowl and was ready to turn the mixer on.

Bel did the same, then set the blades of the mixer down in the middle of the ingredients and flipped it on to high.

Of course, shortening and sugar spattered everywhere.

Including all over Marie who was standing right next to him.

She let out a little shriek.

"You're supposed to start it off on low!" she shouted.

"It doesn't say that in the instructions!" Bel flailed.

"Turn it off!" she pleaded, since she was still getting covered with bits of stuff.

Bel lifted the beaters out of the mixing bowl, which of course meant even more batter being flung through the air, then managed to turn the machine off. He wiped a glob of cookie dough from his cheek and looked pitifully at Marie.

Marie grabbed a wad of paper towels and attempted to remove some of the mess.

"I think you're going to have to start over," she said. Then she realized her mixer was still going and she'd overmixed her dough.

"I am too."

"Sorry," Bel said mournfully. He grabbed some paper towels as well and tried to clean up the mess, both on the counter and on himself.

"It's okay," Marie said. "Just be more careful next time. You have to start slow and increase the speed gradually so you don't make a mess."

"She should've said so in the first place," Bel complained. A glob of batter dropped from his hair onto the floor.

Marie giggled at the sight of Bel with the cookie dough in his hair.

Bel's eyes narrowed, and he took a piece of dough and threw it at Marie.

Marie's jaw dropped as the dough hit her shoulder. She happened to have a stick of butter in her hand, so she retaliated by throwing it at Bel.

The butter hit Bel square in the middle of his chest. He growled and seized a handful of flour and tossed it at Marie.

Marie giggled again and put a hand up in surrender.

Bel posed triumphantly with his hands on his hips. He might've looked more heroic if he didn't have flour all over his hands, butter on his chest, and cookie dough in his hair.

Marie was still giggling.

"Come on," she finally said. "Maybe we can get done faster if we work together."
