"Good morning," Piper greeted with a smile. "You're going to make oatmeal cookies today. With raisins! Unfortunately, I didn't have time to make samples for you. Sorry. I did bring muffins, though."

She pointed out muffins she had purchased earlier at J,GOB. Then she handed the students a list of instructions. "As always, if you have questions, do not hesitate to ask."

Ingredients

1 1/2 Cup Shortening

2 Cups Brown Sugar

1 Cup White Sugar

2 eggs

1/2 Cup Water

2 Teaspoons Vanilla

2 1/3 Cups Flour

1 Teaspoon Cinnamon

2 Teaspoons Salt

2 Cups Raisins

2 Cups Pecans (optional)

6 Cups Oatmeal

Cooking Spray

Instructions

Preheat oven to 325 F.

In a mixer set on medium high combine and mix shortening, brown sugar and white sugar thoroughly.

Add eggs, water and vanilla on medium speed.

Add flour, cinnamon and salt on low speed.

Make sure that all these ingredients have been thoroughly combined.

While your mixer is still on low speed, add raisins and pecans.

Mix in the oatmeal.

Spray a cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

Use a teaspoon to shape the cookie dough into clumps.

Put the cookies on the middle rack and bake for 12-15 minutes.

Make sure not to bake them over 15 minutes.

Remove them from the oven and let them cool for at least 5 minutes before removing them from the cookie sheet.

Bel's eyes narrowed, and he took a piece of dough and threw it at Marie.

Marie's jaw dropped as the dough hit her shoulder. She happened to have a stick of butter in her hand, so she retaliated by throwing it at Bel.

The butter hit Bel square in the middle of his chest. He growled and seized a handful of flour and tossed it at Marie.

Marie giggled again and put a hand up in surrender.

Bel posed triumphantly with his hands on his hips. He might've looked more heroic if he didn't have flour all over his hands, butter on his chest, and cookie dough in his hair.

Marie was still giggling.

"Come on," she finally said. "Maybe we can get done faster if we work together."

Bel let Marie run the mixer this time. He carefully added the eggs, not getting any shells in the dough (that he saw). He may have splashed a little too much vanilla into the mixing bowl, though.

Piper peered at Bel. "Food fight in my class? Seriously?"

Bel looked around for someone to blame. "The mixer started it?" he said lamely.

Piper rolled her eyes. "Well, I can't really give the mixer detention, can I?"

"Yeah, yeah," Bel said. "Go ahead, give me detention. Whatever." Then he remembered suddenly what his plans were for the weekend. "Wait...no...you can't!"

"Actually, I can." It's possible Piper was enjoying this just a little.

"C'mon, Piper, please!" Bel said. "I have plans for this weekend!"

"Maybe you should have thought of that before you started making a mess," Piper said, smirking a bit.

"Piper!" Bel said pleadingly. "You can't do this to me! This is important!"

"Oh? What could possibly be more important than detention?"

Bel looked down and mumbled something unintelligible.

Piper blinked. "It must not be that important if you can't even tell me."

"I'm going to see Angel, all right?" Bel said, still looking down.

"Oh." Piper tried really hard not to snicker. "I'm trying to decide how much groveling you need to do to get out of this."

She was just messing with him now. Because she could.

"Piiiiiiiiiper!" Bel said, giving her his most sorrowful expression. The cookie dough smudged on his cheek didn't help, however.

Piper tried to stifle her giggling, but it was impossible. "Oh relax. I'm not really gonna give you detention."

Bel sighed in relief. He really didn't want to miss this trip. Even if it was going to be awkward as hell.

"Hope you have a good trip," Piper said genuinely.

Bel felt his face flush a little. "It's going to be...interesting," he said.
