Summer Picnic, Main Campfire, Friday afternoon

At lunchtime, the campfire area was set up with blankets, baskets, picnic tables, food, and ant problems. The groundskeeper who brought the ants was later sent home for the rest of the day. It turned out that he didn't really like picnics.

[OOC: I suck and completely forgot about this. Sorry about the relative lateness. It's a sunny and fairly comfortable day. I MOD WEATHER! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!]

"But the podracers are big?" Rory said. Yes, it was a question.

"He pushed the accelerator button," Anakin explained. "Alanna's not a big fan of moving, apparently."

"Alanna and I should fly together," Rory decided.

"Add in Dean and I could come back in five years to find you all in the exact same place," Anakin said with a grin.

Too bad he was sitting in such a prime whapping zone.

Really too bad, considering Rory reached over and wahpped him.

"Mean!"

"Doesn't mean it wasn't true," Anakin snickered.

Rory pouted and poked at the blanket. "My way might be slower but it doesn't mean it's any worse or you have to make fun of me," she said.

"I'm sorry," Anakin said softly. He held out the mostly empty plate of cookies. "Want a cookie?"

Rory looked up and smiled a little. "Okay. Sorry. I don't like being told I'm bad at something. Especially when it's something I'm kind of scared to try to be really good at."

Anakin shifted on the blanket so that his head was resting on one hand. "And to me flying is as natural as breathing. I was doing it before I'd ever heard of the Jedi. If Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan had never come to Tatooine, I'd've been a pilot." He bit his lip and then looked at Rory. "And you'd be good at it. You just have to trust your instincts and let go a little bit. You got much better by the end of the workshop."

"It's scary," Rory said, shrugging. "Anyway. I'm sorry I'm so bad at it. Have another cookie."

"All the really worthwhile things are scary," Anakin said, snagging a cookie. "And there's no need for you to apologize."

Rory thought about it. "No, reading isn't."

"You have to wear gloves so the books don't eat you in Special Collections," Anakin pointed out. "Books can be scary."

Rory thought about it. "I thought of something worthwhile that isn't scary," she said.

The fact that she had gone very red should have been an indication as to what she was thinking of.

Anakin smiled and ran his fingers across her hand as he reached for the chips.

"I don't know..." he said slowly. "That first move can be terrifying."

He smiled. "You don't know how good a Scrabble player that other person is. Or if they even wanted to play Scrabble."

Rory blushed darker. "I wouldn't know," she said primly. "I was talking about drinking coffee, of course.

Anakin bit his lower lip. "Coffee can be scary," he said firmly.

"No, it can't," she said, smirking.

"Zombie weekend," Anakin replied shortly. "Coffee can be scary."

"I've used coffee as a weapon in all the major battles. And I used it as a restorative," she said proudly. "It's scary to zombies and snow and Jello, maybe."

Anakin gave a laugh that didn't quite meet his eyes. "True."

"Are you okay?" she asked softly.

"Sure," Anakin said.

He was quiet for a moment. "What do you remember about the yearbook food?"

"I thought I was Paris and knocked Logan out with the barrel of a shotgun because he thought he was his father," Rory replied immediately. "It turned us into our worst enemies...."

She trailed off. "You never did tell me what you thought you were."
