Summer Picnic, Main Campfire, Friday afternoon

At lunchtime, the campfire area was set up with blankets, baskets, picnic tables, food, and ant problems. The groundskeeper who brought the ants was later sent home for the rest of the day. It turned out that he didn't really like picnics.

[OOC: I suck and completely forgot about this. Sorry about the relative lateness. It's a sunny and fairly comfortable day. I MOD WEATHER! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!]

"You have to wear gloves so the books don't eat you in Special Collections," Anakin pointed out. "Books can be scary."

Rory thought about it. "I thought of something worthwhile that isn't scary," she said.

The fact that she had gone very red should have been an indication as to what she was thinking of.

Anakin smiled and ran his fingers across her hand as he reached for the chips.

"I don't know..." he said slowly. "That first move can be terrifying."

He smiled. "You don't know how good a Scrabble player that other person is. Or if they even wanted to play Scrabble."

Rory blushed darker. "I wouldn't know," she said primly. "I was talking about drinking coffee, of course.

Anakin bit his lower lip. "Coffee can be scary," he said firmly.

"No, it can't," she said, smirking.

"Zombie weekend," Anakin replied shortly. "Coffee can be scary."

"I've used coffee as a weapon in all the major battles. And I used it as a restorative," she said proudly. "It's scary to zombies and snow and Jello, maybe."

Anakin gave a laugh that didn't quite meet his eyes. "True."

"Are you okay?" she asked softly.

"Sure," Anakin said.

He was quiet for a moment. "What do you remember about the yearbook food?"

"I thought I was Paris and knocked Logan out with the barrel of a shotgun because he thought he was his father," Rory replied immediately. "It turned us into our worst enemies...."

She trailed off. "You never did tell me what you thought you were."

"A Sith," Anakin replied, very quiet.

"So yeah, coffee wasn't as appealing for a while."

"...and it's my fault," Rory said softly. "I'm so sorry."

"It's not your fault," Anakin said. "It wasn't anyone's fault. It just happened."

He bit his lip. "It's just not something I like to remember."

"I don't blame you. And it's my fault. I do yearbook. I'min charge of their funraisers. That whole thing was my fault." Rory plucked at the blanket. "Anyway. Apropos of nothing, did you know me-as-Paris can fire a gun?"

Anakin reached over and gave Rory's hand a squeeze, his eyes saying everything he couldn't verbalize in public. "I didn't know that," he said. "Bet you were quite a badass."

"I totally was," she said with a small smile. "I mean, I knocked Logan out."

"If he thought he was Aaron, he totally deserved it," Anakin said.

"He was being gross. That's the only time I've met Aaron, even kind of," Rory said, making a face. "Logan had quite the goose egg from it. I felt bad."

"I don't," Anakin said, smiling.

"You should've heard the lecture I got from Obi-Wan after that weekend was over. It lasted forever."

"Obviously not, since you're talking to me now and he's not here lecturing," Rory said.

"Okay, maybe not literally forever, but he actually called to talk to me. It lasted for hours."

"You have a penchant for exaggeration, you know."

"Do I?" Anakin asked, grinning.
