Library [07/12]

After Photography, Rory finished making sure all the copies of the newsletter were out and spamming the flist before opening the library.

As soon as she had the door propped open, she set her things down and went back out to drag the rather large fan she had brought with her.

Making sure it was on the oscillating function so nothing would blow away, she contentedly curled up behind the desk with her book.

"Sure, as long as you don't pick anything that can bite you," Rory said, running a fingertip over a few spines.

"Oh, definitely. I really don't need busted fingers when I've got this kind of an assignment," Parker responded, carefully taking down a couple books on horticulture, then trees, then one on shrubs, just for further visual punning. She arranged them on one of the tables, then photographed (http://www.sibstrin.ru/library/foto/old_books5.jpg) the result. "Pretty, but a little dull...."

Something rustled.

"Shhh, you'll hurt their feelings," Rory said with a smirk, looking at the books. "I think it makes a pretty still-life, anyway."

"I thought it would be. Plus, I can't resist going for something that's not obvious." Parker took another photo, and then turned--

to see one of the books slowly flipping its pages (http://www.adaevidencelibrary.com/files/images/ebg_old_books.jpg) at her.

She blinked. "Are you posing for me?" She started laughing, but snapped a quick photo even through her amusement.

Rory stared. "Did you mean for it to do that?"

"No, but how can I resist?" Parker said, snapping a photo (http://www.papress.com/designityourself/images/chapter_topics/books_printed.jpg) as a set of notes flew by. "You guys are beautiful. Really!"

Rory, on the other hand, was eyeing the door just in case. "Paaaaarker, we probably should go."

Suddenly remembering other instances when Special Collections took a turn for the weird, Parker paused, and said very loudly, "Wow. I'm out of film! Sorry, guys. But that was great! And I'll bring you copies after they're developed!" And headed for the door. Quickly.

"Think they understand us?" she asked, following after Parker and shutting the door quickly.

"I really, really hope so. Otherwise, they might be patiently waiting for me to come back. And I don't need to be mugged the next time I walk in there." Parker stripped off her gloves, and handed them over. "Thanks. It's weird to be back in here, but not be an aide."

Rory took the gloves. "Yeah, it was even weirder when I was training Tyler of all people."

Parker cocked her head. "Yes, that *would* be weird. I can't imagine this is his ideal place. He's been okay, though? Nothing off, or anything, while he's been here?"

Rory shook her head. "He promised me he'd be good," she said simply. "I trust him."

Parker relaxed a little, and put her camera back in its case. "He seemed -- well, I hate to use the word sincere, but nothing else comes to mind. We had an interesting discussion a few weeks ago. I don't think he *wants* to make trouble." She smiled ruefully. "I just hope he doesn't get creative in the common rooms again."

"He won't," Rory said firmly. "He told me he won't. And if he does, people know better now. We'll be able to spot him. Until that time comes, if it ever does? I don't think it's any of our business to keep tabs on his whereabouts. There are plenty of people who've done bad things here."

Parker hummed but didn't comment on that. Bel was keeping tabs; so was Veronica. Tyler wasn't really her problem. "Anyway... how's your mom? I saw her while she was still in the hospital, are she and Bucky still doing okay?"

"She's fine," Rory said. "So is he. He's tiny."

"He is! And he stopped crying when I bounced him!" Parker blinked, then looked abashed. "I mean. I thought they just cried, no matter what."

"He hasn't cried at all when I've held him, or the people who I've introduced him to," Rory said with a small smile. "He's really insanely well-behaved."

"We're sure he's related to you guys, right?" Parker grinned. "Or does he become more talkative and hyper after you sneak the Jamaica Blue Mountain into his bottle?" She looked wistful. "You're so lucky."

Rory shrugged. "I just saw Gigi, too, who so does not seem like my sister at all. We look way different and she's much...louder."

"She's what, two?" Parker smirked. "I imagine when she can speak in complete sentences, it'll only get worse." She cocked her head. "Still. Very much congratulations." She fiddled with her camera case, and said quietly, "Thanks for letting me know when it happened."

"No problem," Rory said. "And she's one. It's Dad's fault, mostly."

Parker looked up, amused. "Your dad wants her to yell?"

"No, Dad gives her what she wants and has apparently forgotten how to say 'no'," Rory said, smirking.
