The Kludge's Guide to the Universe | Dangershop, Wednesday Afternoon (Week 1)

The danger-shop was set up to look like a cluttered workshop, every available surface covered in futuristic looking junk. Harper sat with his feet up on a bench tapping at a control pad and drinking from a can of Sparky's.

"Good afternoon class," Harper said, taking a sip of his cola. "Just find somewhere to take a seat and we'll get started."

After the class had found somewhere to sit or lean, he stood up.

"My name is Seamus Zelazny Harper," he said. "You can call me Harper. Now I could give this big inspiring Dylan-like speech about the universe, chaos and how we must and really, all you need to know can be condensed into two sentences." Harper held up two fingers.

"The universe hates you. Deal with it.

"And how to successfully deal with it is what you're going to be learning to do over the next few weeks, " Harper said. "And trust me, I've done more than my fair share of dealing with it.

"One important thing to realise is that just because the universe hates you, not everyone in the universe does too. In fact sometimes the only thing standing between you and a horrible painful demise is a group of friends not willing to give up on you. So to start with we'll be doing a number of team-building exercises." Harper grinned. "Of course, since the universe does hate you, and it's been my experience that nothing builds a team faster than your own impending demise, they aren't your regular team building exercises.

"But we'll just start off slow with some introductions."

Janet had a blindfold. And a serious hatred of being out of control. This? Could be a problem. Or really funny, if you weren't her.

Elizabeth moved across and rested a gentle hand on Janet's arm. "Do you trust me?" she asked quietly.

"Of course I do," said Janet, who didn't look worried. At all. Really.

OOC: Slowplay?

Elizabeth smiled gently, taking the blindfold from Janet and carefully fastening it for her. She then leant in and whispered in Janet's ear, "It'll be fine."

Janet nodded. "I know," she said. And she knew that. Mostly. "You're going to lead me through, then?"

Elizabeth nodded, before remembering that Janet couldn't see her anymore. "Yes, I am," she said. She took a step backwards and looked out over the minefield. "Okay, shuffle forwards. Keep going, keep going -- stop. Right, now two small steps to your left."

Janet moved forward, slowly and carefully, her feet scuffing along the ground. "Okay," she said, taking two tiny steps to her left. "Now what?"

"Forward two and then right one," said Elizabeth firmly.

"Big steps, or small ones?" asked Janet. She grinned wryly. "Well, small for me."

"Just your regular stride, hon," said Elizabeth, smiling. "See? Those walks together have been useful."

"I can do that," said Janet. And she did.

"This is good. You're getting there," said Elizabeth warmly. "How are you feeling?"

"Not-- Not as bad as I thought I would be," said Janet.

"That's good. You're nearly, almost um, half way there," said Elizabeth, trying to be encouraging. "Now I want you to take a regular step and a small step to the left, and then I need you to step diagonally right. Uh, north east."

Janet nodded. "You do realize it's not you," she said quietly, following Liz's directions exactly. "It's that I'm a perfectionist control freak."

"Really?" asked Elizabeth lightly, not bothering to hide her grin as Janet couldn't see it. "Wow, I never would have guessed that. Three steps to your right and one small one forward."

Janet rolled her eyes, which was pointless, as she was blindfolded. "I hate you," she said, taking three steps to the right, then hesitating, and one small one ahead.

"No you don't," said Elizabeth confidently. "And if we weren't in the middle of class, I'd prove it once you were out that mine field. One step left, one step forward."

"That line never works on you," said Janet, taking a step left and one forward. "You can prove it later."

"Stupid cabins," muttered Elizabeth, before turning her attention back to the minefield. "Two steps diagonally north-west next."

"Bubble bath. Tomorrow." Janet grinned and followed Liz's directions. "Does that sound like a good plan?"

"That sounds like a great plan," said Elizabeth, grinning herself. "Okay, three steps forward and a small step to the right."

"Sure you're not too distracted?" asked Janet, giggling.

"I'm not going to send you into a mind, no matter how distracted I am," promised Elizabeth. "One step forward, two left and another forward."

"I didn't think you would," said Janet, smiling as she moved. "Am I near the end?"
