The danger-shop was set up to look like a cluttered workshop, every available surface covered in futuristic looking junk. Harper sat with his feet up on a bench tapping at a control pad and drinking from a can of Sparky's.

"Good afternoon class," Harper said, taking a sip of his cola. "Just find somewhere to take a seat and we'll get started."

After the class had found somewhere to sit or lean, he stood up.

"My name is Seamus Zelazny Harper," he said. "You can call me Harper. Now I could give this big inspiring Dylan-like speech about the universe, chaos and how we must and really, all you need to know can be condensed into two sentences." Harper held up two fingers.

"The universe hates you. Deal with it.

"And how to successfully deal with it is what you're going to be learning to do over the next few weeks, " Harper said. "And trust me, I've done more than my fair share of dealing with it.

"One important thing to realise is that just because the universe hates you, not everyone in the universe does too. In fact sometimes the only thing standing between you and a horrible painful demise is a group of friends not willing to give up on you. So to start with we'll be doing a number of team-building exercises." Harper grinned. "Of course, since the universe does hate you, and it's been my experience that nothing builds a team faster than your own impending demise, they aren't your regular team building exercises.

"But we'll just start off slow with some introductions."

Janet rolled her eyes, which was pointless, as she was blindfolded. "I hate you," she said, taking three steps to the right, then hesitating, and one small one ahead.

"No you don't," said Elizabeth confidently. "And if we weren't in the middle of class, I'd prove it once you were out that mine field. One step left, one step forward."

"That line never works on you," said Janet, taking a step left and one forward. "You can prove it later."

"Stupid cabins," muttered Elizabeth, before turning her attention back to the minefield. "Two steps diagonally north-west next."

"Bubble bath. Tomorrow." Janet grinned and followed Liz's directions. "Does that sound like a good plan?"

"That sounds like a great plan," said Elizabeth, grinning herself. "Okay, three steps forward and a small step to the right."

"Sure you're not too distracted?" asked Janet, giggling.

"I'm not going to send you into a mind, no matter how distracted I am," promised Elizabeth. "One step forward, two left and another forward."

"I didn't think you would," said Janet, smiling as she moved. "Am I near the end?"

Elizabeth just smiled as she reached up to untie Janet's blindfold. "Yes," she said simply.

Janet stuck her tongue out at Liz. "Thanks," she said.

Elizabeth grinned. "Welcome," she said, moving her body to block the trailing of her hand lightly down Janet's arm.

Janet bit her lip to hold back a smile. "Your turn," she said, taking hte blindfold and holding it up for Liz.

Elizabeth tied the blindfold over her eyes. "Okay, possibly should have been standing at the edge of the minefold when I did this," she said, grinning. Her hands automatically went up to try and feel her way.

"Hands down," said Janet firmly. She eyed the minefield. "Two steps forward, then one very careful half-step to the right."

Elizabeth pouted, but obeyed Janet's instructions; her hands tucked into the back pockets of her jeans.

"Remember, touching the mines is bad," said Janet, smiling at the pout. "Take a full step forward, then another half-step to the right."

"I wasn't aiming for the mines," admitted Elizabeth, as she followed the assigned steps.

"I'm not standing in front of you," said Janet, murmuring in Liz's ear.

Elizabeth shivered, her hand twitching in her backpocket to get out.

"Keep your hands in your pockets," said Janet quietly, her voice amused. "Be good."

"You're in so much trouble later, you do realize," whispered Elizabeth. "And I am behaving!"

"I like being in trouble with you," said Janet, her eyes gleaming. "Take two steps forward."

One. Two. "That's good," said Elizabeth breathlessly. "Because it's one of my favorite passtimes too."

"You're in a lot of trouble, trust me," said Janet. "Take a half step to the right. Very, very carefully."
