Arts & Crafts Workshop #1, Camp Dining Hall, 07.10.06, Afternoon

[OOC: The class info post will be updated later on to reflect Session 2's class. Glad to see you all. Get in and start talking/working. Class Info Post]

The Tick smiled as the students took their seats in the Camp Dining Hall. "Hello, campers, and welcome to Arts & Crafts. For anyone who doesn't know me, I am The Tiick! Defender of Justice and Dean of Students!"

"To get started today, we will be working with popsicle sticks. At each of your seats is a packet of different popsicle stick projects that you can use for ideas. Up at the front here is everything you might need to do this project. What I want you to do is create a diorama with several different popsicle stick characters and some popsicle stick scenery if you're up for it. Use as many characters as you want, either from the packet or of your own creation, stick them into a styrofoam base which should keep them from falling over, and set the scene!"

"Here's my diorama as an example. I call it 'Two Chums Distributing Justice!' The blue stick here is me, the white stick here with the moth wings is my friend, Arthur. The guy here with the extra wood up top is a nasty villain named Chairface Chippendale, and here are a bunch of cronies about to taste a Justice Punch Pop! Let's see what you can come up with!"

"In addition to projects like this, you'll be working on a long-term project throughout the next seven weeks. We will be making scrapbooks! Yes, scrapbooks, the mighty hallmark of arts and crafts! These scrapbooks will be detailing your time here this session. Your thoughts, your impressions, your feelings. Whatever makes you you will be in there! At the end of the session, we'll take a look at everyone's scrapbooks, and the person with the best scrapbook might just win a special prize if I don't flake on that this time! All of your scrapbooking supplies are on this side of the table. Feel free to mod take whatever you might need to get a start on your scrapbooks!"

Jamie busies himself with making several popsicle figures, even though looking at the sticks makes him a tad bit nauseated.

Molly sat down next to Jamie and began working on her own figures.

"Hey, Jamie. Give any more thought to the idea of our cabins teaming up for pranking?"

Re: Stick Diorama! [WS1]

[identity profile] multi-madrox.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Jamie coughed loudly in order to cover up any sound of the word "Pranking."

When he's sure that Dean Tick isn't looking he scribbles out a note.

I'm down with it. Any target in particular?"

"Oops," Molly said and looked around.

She read the note, then added to it before sliding it back to Jamie.

I haven't thought that far ahead. I wanted to make sure that we wouldn't have to retaliate against you all first.

Jamie reads the note and quickly writes out a response.

Who? Us little bugs? Nah. I say we combine our mighty forces in the name of prank unity.

Are the other Stickbugs in agreement? I've talked to several Meerkats and they're good with it.

I'll check with my mighty stickbug brothers tonight and will get back to you on that."

Good. Then, if they agree, we can talk targets.

Broots was very carefully making two popsicle stick people who appeared to be wearing futuristic clothing. He was more intent on making the background though.

"BROOTS! You're back!" Molly said with a smile.

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Molly! And yeah, I am!" Broots blinked. "And making a Molly, not you, out of popscicle sticks."

Molly giggled. "I don't know who I'm making yet," she said, looking down at the generic figures she'd assembled.

"Did you have a nice vacation?"

Re: Stick Diorama! [WS1]

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"I got sunburned, my sister was a pest, and Mom took away my laptop." Broots paused. "According to her, I had a great time."

Molly cringed. "How bad did the withdrawal get?" she asked sympathetically.

"I woke up at two in the morning and snuck into the hotel lobby to at least have internet access." Broots twitched. "My parents idea of a vacation is my idea of hell."

Alec sat down to mess with popsicle sticks, though he didn't look particularly sure what to do with them yet.

Hermione works painstakingly hard, creating a diorama of the class as she sees it now. When she dots an eye on a popsicle stick too big, she throws that one away and tries again.

Jude watches her, his eyes wide with admiration for her perfectionism.

Then again, there was quite a bit of detail on his own wee popsicle sticl people. Five of them sitting around a table, with a sixth standing inside what seems to be a giant lemon.

"Cool, bra," he commented.

Hermione blinks, a little unused to that phrasing. "Um. Thank you."

Re: Stick Diorama! [WS1]

[identity profile] dude-its-jude.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"You're welcome."

It was very hard to make a lemon out of popsicle sticks.

"What are you trying to do?" asks Hermione, who really doesn't know.

"I'm reproducin' the food court back home," he explained, pointing at the lemon-like structure. "That's the Big Squeeze."

Re: Stick Diorama! [WS1]

[personal profile] smartestone 2006-07-11 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," she says, not sure if the lemon-like structure is supposed to look like a lemon, as she's never seen a building like that. "That's very ambitious."

Stark stared at the pile of popsicle sticks in front of him for a few minutes, trying to decide what to do with them. Then he started working on some wee popsicle stick people. Very colorful popsicle stick people.
