Arts & Crafts Workshop #1, Camp Dining Hall, 07.10.06, Afternoon

[OOC: The class info post will be updated later on to reflect Session 2's class. Glad to see you all. Get in and start talking/working. Class Info Post]

The Tick smiled as the students took their seats in the Camp Dining Hall. "Hello, campers, and welcome to Arts & Crafts. For anyone who doesn't know me, I am The Tiick! Defender of Justice and Dean of Students!"

"To get started today, we will be working with popsicle sticks. At each of your seats is a packet of different popsicle stick projects that you can use for ideas. Up at the front here is everything you might need to do this project. What I want you to do is create a diorama with several different popsicle stick characters and some popsicle stick scenery if you're up for it. Use as many characters as you want, either from the packet or of your own creation, stick them into a styrofoam base which should keep them from falling over, and set the scene!"

"Here's my diorama as an example. I call it 'Two Chums Distributing Justice!' The blue stick here is me, the white stick here with the moth wings is my friend, Arthur. The guy here with the extra wood up top is a nasty villain named Chairface Chippendale, and here are a bunch of cronies about to taste a Justice Punch Pop! Let's see what you can come up with!"

"In addition to projects like this, you'll be working on a long-term project throughout the next seven weeks. We will be making scrapbooks! Yes, scrapbooks, the mighty hallmark of arts and crafts! These scrapbooks will be detailing your time here this session. Your thoughts, your impressions, your feelings. Whatever makes you you will be in there! At the end of the session, we'll take a look at everyone's scrapbooks, and the person with the best scrapbook might just win a special prize if I don't flake on that this time! All of your scrapbooking supplies are on this side of the table. Feel free to mod take whatever you might need to get a start on your scrapbooks!"

Jamie busies himself with making several popsicle figures, even though looking at the sticks makes him a tad bit nauseated.

Broots was very carefully making two popsicle stick people who appeared to be wearing futuristic clothing. He was more intent on making the background though.

Alec sat down to mess with popsicle sticks, though he didn't look particularly sure what to do with them yet.

Hermione works painstakingly hard, creating a diorama of the class as she sees it now. When she dots an eye on a popsicle stick too big, she throws that one away and tries again.

Stark stared at the pile of popsicle sticks in front of him for a few minutes, trying to decide what to do with them. Then he started working on some wee popsicle stick people. Very colorful popsicle stick people.

Jamie makes a stick figure of everyone in class and rigs it in the scrapbook so it acts like a pop up book and all the students are intently listening to Guido The Tick.

Molly had never even thought about making a scrapbook before so she just grabbed some basic supplies then spent some time watching what other people did with the stuff they took.

Hermione isn't very creative, per se, so she decoratively numbers all of the pages. For easy reference later. She even creates a table of contents, to be filled in later.

Alec though on it a couple minutes, then labelled one page "WEEK 1". Then he drew a big seahorse in glue, covered it with glitter, and cut out a banner from construction paper to glue it across the bottom and write "Return of Seawhorse! Shirtlessness Encouraged!" on it.

Stark has no idea what to put in a scrapbook, so he starts off putting a 1 at the top of the page. Then he doodles on the edges, trying to think of what to do next.

Broots starts working on a very detailed diagram of a computer chip for his cover.

Jude wondered if Setsuna would scrapbook with him.

Because he would need help.

Obviously.

Jamie displays his diorama. One figure seems to be a very tall popsicle stick wearing read goggles with a tuft of white hair coming from his head and out of proportion upper body. Another figure appears to be covered in reddish-brown fur but appears to be more human than animal. There are also a dozen other popsicle figures wearing a green shirt, jeans and a trenchcoat.

"This is really just me and my buddies back home in New York."

Broots's diorama appears to be located on the inside of a computer, only there are two people in it. One has tiny woodchips attached to her "hands".

"Um, these are Molly and Case from William Gibson's novel Neuromancer? Yeah."

"This is all of you," says Hermione, showing off her mini-A&C class. "I tried to make it as exact as possible, but they are just popsicle sticks." And it would be wrong to Transfigure them into something else.

Molly's diorama is of the battle with the jello dragons. Specifically, it is a model of Jamie getting eaten by a lime jello dragon. So, there are a couple Jamie's on the ground in front of a very basic green popsicle stick dragon with a pair of legs sticking out of its mouth.

"It's before Jamie multiplied himself and exploded the dragon's head," she said.

Stark held up his diorama with its wee colorful popsicle stick people. There's a blue one, a grey one, a very small green one, one that was kind of orange and had little yarn tentacles that probably just looked like hair, and three popsicle-stick colored ones, one of which had a wee mask painted on half its face.

"Friends shipmates acquaintances people who liked to hit me friends of mine, from before I came here," he explained. "And me."
