The all too familiar opening chords of Europe's The Final Countdown sounded and after a short delay for dramatic effect, GOB danced out onto the auditorium stage. He pulled blue and gold handkerchief chains out of both sleeves (which was difficult with a hand still in a cast) until the chains clearly met in the middle underneath his shirt. A large burst of smoke appeared on stage and when it cleared, the handkerchiefs had turned into two cages of doves. One of the doves fell over in the cage, choking on the smoke.

Over the next couple minutes he disappeared cards, linked and unlinked rings, and made his cast say "GO GREMLINS." It was slightly more impressive than should normally be expected from GOB.

When the music wound down, GOB stepped up to the microphone. "Welcome, ladies, gentlemen, and others. Today you will witness the finest example of amateur talent you have ever seen. Unless they suck. If they suck, you should make sure they know they suck. Not just today. Boo them this weekend, too. They'll deserve it for making me a liar."

"Anyway, let's hear it for today's acts!"

"Thanks. How are you doing?"

"After some coffee and aspirin, I shaped up," Cally said. "How about you?"

"Coffee, aspirin, rum, water, tobassco. . . . I'm okay."

"You've been drinking already?" Cally said.

"Hair of the dog."

Cally nodded. "Yeah, I suppose that works," she said. "You, ummm, up to anything tonight?"

"Parker was just telling me there's a masquerade party at Caritas, but I don't know if I'll go. Why?"

"Just thought we might hang out," Cally said with a nervous shrug. "Party or not."

Hang out. Just hang out. Hanging out was okay.

Right?

"Sure."

Cally figeted slightly. "Good," she said. "Definitely good. So... do you want to go to Jarod's party, or no?"

"I don't know yet. I'm trying to decide if I want to end up drunk again, tonight."

"Two nights in a row might be a lot, yeah," Cally said. "Course, I could always make sure you don't drink or something."

"Go to Caritas and not drink? Is that allowed?"

"I won't tell if you don't," Cally said.

"Well, the radio might, but I guess there are just some chances we'll have to take."

"Chance taking is good," Cally said with a slight cough. "So, if we're going, we're going to need costumes."

"That's right, I guess we will. Got anything in mind?"

"Last time I had to wear a costume I just ended up wearing my jumpsuit... which was such a copout I'm so not doing it again," Cally said. She tapped a finger on her chin. "I'm thinking something sexy. Something that'll get some attention." from you, hopefully...

"When I think of costumes, I usually end up in a wig and glasses." Nadia shrugged. "Maybe we should just get dressed up? I don't have any masks, or anything."

"Could always make a quick stop by All and Sundries," Cally said.

"That's true."

"We could always, you know, just... do something else, if you don't want to bother."

"No, it sounds like it could be fun. We could go shopping and then to a party. What girl doesn't like that?"

"Good point," Cally said. "Shall we get ready together, then?"

"It's practically traditional." Bad. Badbadbadbadbad. "What kind of sexy outfit were you thinking of? ~~You'd look great in a pink wig. . . .~~"
