Danger Shop - Detention [6/24]

As the students enter, the Danger Shop appears to be a mostly empty room with a half circle of chairs in the middle.

The focal point of the half circle is a large white board which has a list of names on one half. The other half is covered at the moment.

Belthazor
Marie D'Ancanto
Timothy Desmond
Walter Dornez
Tyler Durden
Kaylee Fry
Phoebe Halliwell
Charles Kawalsky
Jamie Madrox
Setsuna Sakurazaki
Nadia Santos
Stark

Once everyone has arrived, Veronica begins briefing them.

"I don't know what you guys did to earn detention today and frankly, I don't care. Today we're going to solve a mystery and you're going to put someone else's well being before for your own."

She uncovers the other half of the board, which has a list of information about a missing girl, including a physical description.

"The girls' parents believe she has run off with her boyfriend and don't want to involve the authorities. It's your job to find her."

"Oh, hey. Uh, no, no-one's sitting there. Take a seat. I'm Charlie." He offered his hand.

"Nice to meet you," Marie said, shaking his hand.

She sat down and started eating. "So how'd you end up in detention?" she asked between bites.

"Y'know, I dunno. I think it might have been in Dada when Artie went all Aluminum Guy on us."

"Yeah, that was weird," Marie said. "Well, weirder than usual. Was that some great Dada display? It looks like the majority of the people in the workshop are in detention today."

"I, uh, dunno what Dada really is, so it could be. If it was, it was really, really good. The aluminum was weird though." He looked around. "I wonder if this means that having detention is Dada too. I always thought it meant that you were busted for the teacher having a bad day and taking it out on you." He grinned.

Marie smiled. "I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't really get it. All I know is that it's weird. But yesterday was so far beyond weird I can't even explain it. And I've never had detention before, is this kind of thing normal?"

"Uh, well," he looked around. "I hear it's something different every week. Last time I had detention it was with Professor Tick and we ended up fighting snow monsters, but that wasn't planned or anything. I've only heard stories and stuff, but if you ask enough people, you'll probably hear about 'em all." He took a bite of his sandwich, chewed and swallowed. "So you've never had detention *here* or ever?"

"Ever," Marie said. "I hope my parents don't find out."

"Don't worry, what happens in Fandom stays in Fandom. Most folks wouldn't believe a word you said about this place."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't told my parents much of anything about this place," Marie confessed. "I'm afraid they'd make me come home."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "Probably. I hear the brochure for this place looks great, but there's a few things they leave out so the parents don't freak out. Some of my friends have figured out that it's better just to stick to the basics, like 'hi mom, I'm alive and well' and leave out 'but I nearly got eaten by zombies' or 'I got turned into a turkey for most of the week' parts."

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Marie laughed. "So I take it you're from a fairly normal town then? No vampires or demons or anything back home?"

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm from New York originally. A pretty normal New York. No superheroes or anything, as much as I wanted there to be when I was there. I moved around a lot because my Dad was military, so if there were any vampires or demons, I might have missed them. There were aliens though, but not really on the planet so much as off and far, far away."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm from Mississippi," Marie said. "A normal one as well, though I think maybe mutants exist in my world because Congress was talking about a Mutant Registration Act and Jamie had that in his world."

She tilted her head. "How do you know there were aliens?"

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"That Mutant Registration Act sounds like a load of trouble. As for the aliens.." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I kind of got killed by one. I'm okay now!" He added hurriedly. "A hundred percent alive. Just that kind of thing that makes you remember them."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Marie's jaw dropped. "Oh, wow. Um... I have no idea what to say to that," Marie confessed.

[that worked cause I had to link gather!]

Kawalsky grinned sheepishly. "It's a real conversation stopper, isn't it?" He poked himself in the chest. "But see? Real, alive, don't have to deal with those aliens anymore, just the nice ones. And Aeryn, who isn't nice, but is cool anyway."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Marie looked at him kind of skeptically. "How does that work?" she asked. "And Aeryn's an alien?"

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Bad aliens killed me, good aliens used their technology to bring me back. Can't say I asked a whole lot of questions. Or, any really, because I woke up here and they were gone. Aeryn's, uh, complicated. I dunno if she's an alien alien in the way like little green men or anything, but she's not from around here, so she's alien to me. If that makes sense." He frowned. "I'm not sure it does."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if it makes sense or not, but considering how much around here doesn't make sense, I'm not surprised," Marie said. "That's cool that the good aliens helped you though."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
He smiled. "Me too. Even with all of the zombies and snow monsters and mummies and detention, I like it here. The first month or two was weird, but it's a good place to be now. And there's that whole feeling about having a secret that the rest of the world doesn't know about and wouldn't believe anyway. Got your own secret island getaway."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Marie nodded. "I'm starting to get used to it. I try not to make things make sense too much, that seems to help. I'm not sure I'd know how to act if I went back home now though."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that's gotta be tough. Most people would think you've gone crazy or you're making stuff up. I figure the world, well, any of 'em, have weird stuff going on and I just don't know about it all yet. So if I ever went back, I think I'd not tell anyone, but keep my eyes open."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I know I could never tell my family any of the stuff that I learned here. They'd think I was nuts. My parents were convinced that mutants didn't exist; that they government made them up to scare people. But now I know they do."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Charlie nodded. "I wouldn't have believed any of the people here existed unless I saw 'em for myself. So in your universe, there's mutants and the government is trying to get them to come out or something?"
