Danger Shop - Detention [6/24]

As the students enter, the Danger Shop appears to be a mostly empty room with a half circle of chairs in the middle.

The focal point of the half circle is a large white board which has a list of names on one half. The other half is covered at the moment.

Belthazor
Marie D'Ancanto
Timothy Desmond
Walter Dornez
Tyler Durden
Kaylee Fry
Phoebe Halliwell
Charles Kawalsky
Jamie Madrox
Setsuna Sakurazaki
Nadia Santos
Stark

Once everyone has arrived, Veronica begins briefing them.

"I don't know what you guys did to earn detention today and frankly, I don't care. Today we're going to solve a mystery and you're going to put someone else's well being before for your own."

She uncovers the other half of the board, which has a list of information about a missing girl, including a physical description.

"The girls' parents believe she has run off with her boyfriend and don't want to involve the authorities. It's your job to find her."

Lockpicking. It had to be lockpicking. Kawalsky was not particularly bad at lockpicking, but he wasn't particularly good at it either. If it had been an electronic lock, he would have had an easier time by just finding a way to fry it.

He decided to give regular lockpicking a try. When the window of opportunity opened, he went for it. Kawalsky approached the door and crouched down. He spent 30 seconds trying to fiddle with the lock and it just wouldn't work. Not being able to use his hand properly because of the cast probably didn't help, but the fact was that he just wasn't good at lockpicking. Frustrated, he decided to go for the oldest trick in the book and pulled out the card from his pocket. He tried to use it to push the door open. It took some physical effort, but he managed to get the door open with moments to spare and he slipped inside.

Marie has never, ever had any reason or need to pick a lock and she really doesn't have a clue how to do it.

She raised her hand.

Shop class, apparently, was going to come in handy. Not that Stark had been all that good at lockpicking, but at least he had some idea of what he was doing. Since they'd had a set of actual lock picks before, that's what he used.

It took a few tries, and more than a few muffled "will you frelling work?"s, but eventually the lock opened. Stark grinned at it for a moment, then opened the door.

Tyler contemplates just blowing up the lock. He is in danger shop, right?

Decidign that probably isn't what Veronica wants, he makes an attempt on the lock with a metal nail file. He's a little clumsy, but he manages to break the door open just as the security camera window closes.

At this point, Walter's experience with picking locks is limited to using a spring from a... device, and part of an earring on a pair of handcuffs. After watching the Jamies' extremely subtle entrance, he decides he can go with what he knows, too, and uses a wire to sever the latch and slip inside the room.

In a span of time while waiting for the cameras to drift, Sakurazaki is busy scribbling on a long, narrow sheet of paper. She still wasn't very good at this spell, but she'd have a better chance doing it this way than she would with anything else, and Veronica didn't say anything about not using magic.

She slaps the paper down against the lock, whispering a quick incantation. She waits, channeling some collected chi into the runes, and slowly, the door opens.

These card locks were ridiculously easy to paper-magic. If it had been tradition, she would have been in trouble.

Or not. She could have just knocked the thing open.

Nadia pulled out her very seldomly used library card and slid it into the door crack.

Approximately two seconds later, the door popped open. She was just lucky that the hotel happened to have door knobs that you could jimmy open that way. Though she had been thinking of using the metal clip from her mechanical pencil and the ampere attachment on her leatherman.

Bel broke the door knob off rather than pick the lock. Oops.

Kaylee grinned. Living on a ship with thieves definitely came in handy. Lock picking was something they did many times.

Of course, Kaylee never actually tried it herself. Still, she was determined, so she pulled a hair pin out of her hair and started working on the lock. It couldn't be all that different from fixing engines, right?

It wasn't quite the same. Kaylee even found herself cursing in frustration as she worked on the lock. After what seemed like a very long time, she finally got the the thing open, smiling triumphantly.

Phoebe wondered if her skills at getting into Prue's locked doors, chests and diaries when she was MUCH younger would work on a hotel door.

She gathered a couple of tools and set to work calmly. It wasn't the neatest job and someone would know that the door had been messed with, but V didn't say anything about the job having to be neat.

She finally got the door open and went inside.

Tim had once been locked onto the roof of the building and finally managed to get the door open with a rusty nail. no nails here, and it was a different lock.

He did have paperlips. So he attempted to use those. That didn't work so well. Shoot what did they do in the movies? Credit card. Clostest thing he had was the phone card and there was no way he was going to risk that.

Fortunately the do not disturb sigh worked just as well.

"Thank you for teaching me valuable larceny skills." Tim smirked at Veronica. "Or if petty burglary doesn't cut it, I can always sneak into celebritie's homes and take scandal pictures."

Marie's jaw dropped and she quickly covered her eyes and ducked out of the room.

"Hotel Security," One of the Jamies said quickly. "We were testing the door to make sure it was secure. Obviously it failed. Sorry to bother you sir."

Jamie then turned to the other Jamies. "Okay guys make a note. Doors need to be more secure. Also? Let's make sure that we talk with the front desk and make sure the girl down there is reprimanded for giving us a filled room to test."

"Right."

"Gotcha."

"More secure door," One duplicate said writing that down.

Stark took a few seconds to flail, since he really wasn't expecting any people.

"Sorry sorry sorry," he stammered, then backed out of the doorway and slammed the door shut. That was awkward.

"Sorry, man," Tyler said. "Was expecting someone else."

He might linger at the door for just a moment before beating it out of there.

Oops.

Walter relies on the fact that waistcoat and tie are almost universal uniform material and executes a small bow. "My apologies sir, I was here on turndown service for your room, but," he eyes the other person in the bed for a moment, "your bed clearly doesn't need it."

With that, he backs out of the room and pushes the door closed, hoping it takes a bit for Mr. Casablancas to realize that the the door will never latch again.

Nadia crossed her arms and looked pointedly at the other guy. "This was your 'little surprise' for me?! You swore you'd never cheat on me again! Well, that's it! I've had enough! I told you: if we have a threesome it'll be with another girl!" She 'auggggghhhh'ed in frustration and turned and stalked back out of the room.

Phoebe smiled a smile at Dick and then looked at the other guy on the bed. Then she looked back at Dick.

She really shouldn't.

She gave a long-suffering sigh and shook her head. "Your taste is really starting to suck, Dick. Marco was much more well-hung than this guy."

She shook her head again and left the room, collapsing against the wall in giggles for a moment.
