Rory curled up behind the desk, alternating her attention between a copy of the summer newsletter and a list of things to remember for the shower that evening.

"Very soothing," Willow agreed. "And in a world with few headaches. Say, long as I'm here, do you have any books about learning how to use a sword? I'm trying to study."

"We should!" Rory said cheerfully, rolling her chair over to the computer. "Yup - over in the 400's." She pointed helpfully.

"Perfect!" Willow said. She went over to browse. "I assume we can hold on to these longer than the ones from Special Collections?"

"For a week, yup," Rory said. "You have a card, right? Because if not, I can hook you up pretty quickly."

Willow came back with three books that looked promising. "Nope, no card. Got kicked out by the genie too fast last time. What do I need to do? Oh! Can I practice singing my name really small so it fits onto the back? I loved doing that."

"You can definitely do that," Rory said, pulling out a form. "Okay, name, room number, class, and if you want to put if you're a Chosen One, that's okay. It used to a rule that you can't, but it ended up being helpful to know awhile ago, so I'm telling people to go ahead and put it."

Willow started to fill it out. "Willow Rosenberg, room 509, junior, non-Chosen One. There! Where do I do my little signature?"

Rory took the form, quickly processed it, and in under a minute presented a card. "Right there," she said, pointing to a strip on the back.

Willow signed her name with a flourish. If by flourish you meant moving very carefully because if she got a single spot of ink outisde of the signature strip she would probably set the card on fire and beg Rory to never tell anyone the mistake had happened.

"There! All done!"

"Perfect!" Rory declared, and checked out the books to Willow.

In under ten seconds. New personal record. Go Rory.

"So these are due back next Wednesday?" Willow asked. "Oh! I can see you again. Assuming you're working next Wednesday."

"Hopefully," Rory said. "I'm going home for a little while tomorrow, and with any luck, I'll be back within a week. But, typical of my grandparents, they didn't give a timeframe."

"Oh, well have fun," Willow said. "Where's home?"

"Hartford, Connecticut," Rory replied. "You're from California, right? The same place as Xander?"

"Same place as Xander, not the same dimension," Willow confirmed. "I've never been to Connecticut. Actually the only time I've even been East was pretty much now. Is it nice? Do they call you Nutmegers?"

"It's pretty," Rory said. She looked slightly puzzled. "And I've never been called a Nutmeger, but I'm actually from a really weird, tiny town, and it's probably just a matter of time."

"Sunnydale's only got the one Starbucks," Willow said, by way of understanding. "Which, considering the Hellmouth, might be a good argument to show that Starbucks is not actually evil."

"There's a Hellmouth?" Rory asked curiously.

"Yep," Willow said. "Makes us a magnet for vampires, demons, and all sorts of nastiness. Including a school system that favors PCs over Macs. 'nuff said."

"Ew," Rory said, wrinkling her nose. "I wonder if we have a Hellmouth here. There tends to be lots of bad stuff."

"Ours was under the library," Willow said. "Which, again, does make sense given where we had the weapons storage."

Rory looked dubiously at the floor.

"I've been wondering about that too," Willow admitted.

"If there is a Hellmouth, can't we just get anti-demon spray or something?" Rory speculated.

"If there is a Hellmouth, fortunately we have Buffy," Willow said. "Granted a Buffy who I don't think even knows what a Hellmouth is but as far as I'm aware she's still a Slayer so hopefully that'll work out well for us."
