Student Art Fair, Friday afternoon, Dorms Front Lawn

Since it was set to be a nice day, the Art Fair was laid out on the front lawn of the dorms.

When people entered, they were greeted with a selection of tissue paper flowers in colorful - mainly blue - vases. Beyond that, there was a number of displays from the various participating classes.

The Student Art Fair was open.

[OOC: Students with projects should start a subthread under their class for their project containing a description or link to a picture of their project. GOB's students should just get in place and perform for however long they want to. They are free to come and go.

Conversations in general areas should go under the General Conversation subthreads. Confusing, yes? Actual viewing and commenting on the different projects should go under the student's subthreads.

Have fun and enjoy the art! I'm turning notifications off but you can ping me in the OOC thread or via e-mail if you need to catch my attention.]

Willow put up a printout of her MS Paint picture (http://pics.livejournal.com/willbedone/pic/000014qr/).

Tim's face split into an unexpected grin. It was like a little slice of home in the form of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He didn't get half the pictures in that place but this would look right at home there. He told Willow so.

Willow smiled. "Thanks, Tim. I'm not much of an artist, but sometimes I doodle."

"This seems kinda deliberate to be a doodle." Tim said. "Are you just doing the modesty thing?"

"The computer does most of the work with making things look like they're supposed to," Willow said. "If I tried drawing any of that on my own without a compass or a ruler I'd be totally lost. And presenting a picture called Fun With Squiggles."

Tim snickered. "I bet a lot of artwork these days is made with computers." he said.

"You can do so much!" Willow said, her geekiness showing. "This is very uncomplicated because Abby said we had to use MS Paint and, well, I was sort of in a rush because I was cheating. But these days you can make entire movies on computer."

Tim blinked. "For real? wow. I'm still in the early days of such things, 1991. The hellions I babysit for still think that by now we'll be living on the moon and flying in rocket cars."

"Oh! You still have all the wonders of the internet to discover," Willow said. "I'm from 1999. There was a bit of an adjustment but there was enough similar that I could get the hang of things."

"I've tried the internet a bit in leadership." Tim said. "It seems to mostly be for porn." why you think the net was born? Porn porn porn!

"I tried looking up orienteering and topographical maps and somehow wound up with...well fortunatley the pop ups covered anything explicit but it was a bit of a shock."

"Tell me about it," Willow said, sympathetically. "Well, I mean not really because it's naughty and probably not for polite company, but I mean I know where you're coming from because with the stuff I research? You don't even want to know the kinds of web pages that turn up."

"What kind of stuff do you research?"

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Depends on what's going on but usually magicy stuff," Willow said. "Demons, vampires, that kind of a thing. You don't want to see the websites that a Net Nanny wouldn't approve of when you're using those for your keywords."

At some point during the day Abby dropped off a treat (http://www.onestopcandle.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/cmj026.jpg) for her computer students who participated.

"Thanks, Abby!"

"Great picture, Willow! Good use of color." Abby smiled.

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," Willow said. "I thought about going all customizey but then I thought if you wanted us using Paint maybe just stick with the basics of the program."

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"You're right. I did want you to stick to the basics for right now." Abby leaned closer. "Sorry if this class is a little slow for you. I didn't realize I would have so many different skill levels in one class."

"But next week we start on the internets, so you'll be able to speed things up more."

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh no," Willow assured her. "It's been great. I think you've been doing a good job mixing it up for everybody. I was telling Ms. Calendar that if I couldn't have her for a computer teacher again that I was very happy with you."

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Awww! Thank you, Willow." Abby bounced said happily. "Was Ms. Calendar your old computer teacher?"

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep," Willow said. "I took over after she - um. I was sort of a TA. For her class. Kind of."

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"So you really know what you're doing, don't you?" Abby put a finger to her temple. "Note to self, call on Willow to demonstrate things to the class. You must rock if you were a TA."

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd love to help you demonstrate things!" Willow said, feeling like she'd just won the nerdy lottery. "Or anything else with class, honest. Me and computers are just like that." She held up two crossed fingers.

Re: Student Art: Computers & Fun

[identity profile] cheerfulgoth.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
"That'd be a great. I've never really taught before so you'd probably do a much better job of it." Abby did not wonder if it was possible to have Willow teach Ranma how to use computers instead of her.

Okay, maybe she did. But just for a second.

"Anything I can help with you just let me know," Willow said, possibly because she was unable to read Abby's narrative mind.
