Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

Walter put a piece of banana bread on a napkin and held it out to River.

He also stuck his tongue out at Nadia. "I'd say that you'd never had a properly brewed cup of tea, but I have made you tea and I have to assume that your taste buds have simply been blunted by all the coffee."

Pippi took a bite of her own banana bread.

She considered telling Walter that perhaps he needed more training on his tea skills... But she was pretty sure them's fighten' words.

Nadia finally managed to pour herself a cup and took a long sniff. She sighed. "Maybe from drinking this coffee," she conceeded. "But you should try the stuff we had back home."

"I'll try it sometime," he said, mostly to humor Nadia. "Did you pick out any books?"

Nadia grinned. "A few. . . ."

"Oh?" He peered to see if he could read any titles. "Such as?"

The titles were all of a certain grape or plum colored style of non-poetical writing, and the covers bore anatomically improbable men and women in wild, exotic locals.

Walter snickered as he caught sight of the titles and one improbable cover. "I do hope you're not going to expect me to be anything like that."

Nadia gave Walter a look of mock innocense. "You mean you're not?"

"Oh my dearest love, I languish in the depths of the night awaiting a breath from you that you are mine and only mine," he declaimed, throwing a hand over his heart.

What? Hellsing's library has a lot of Victorian-era novels, a time that defined purple prose.

Walter couldn't keep a straight face, but he tried. "Oh, my dear! Shall I loosen your corset?"

"Nay, for it is merely the passion with which you speak that makes me dizzy," Nadia proclaimed, just the barest hint of a giggle in her voice.

"Your beauty and wit incite me to such heights," Walter said, taking her hand and bowing over it partly to hide his growing grin. "I am unworthy to even think on them, but still I cannot help myself."

And curtseyed. At the same time.

Walter put an arm around her, as though solicitous of all the swooning, then burst out laughing.

"I think you've broken me now."

"Well, that is my goal on a daily basis," Nadia started laughing as well.

River grinned. "Thank you." She stuffed her mouth full of banana bread. "So the tea here is good?"

Walter had a sip of his tea and nodded. "I believe Mr. Giles is from my home city, as is Peter. We have rather particular preferences for how tea is properly done."

River, being from a planet deeply influenced by Chinese culture, was familiar with tea. But perhaps not British tea. "I like tea. Where are you from?"

"I'm from London." Walter answered. "Where are you from, if I may ask?"

"I grew up on a planet called Osiris," River replied. "but I've been living on a spaceship recently. I've read about London in historical texts. It got invaded by butterflies."

Walter raised his eyebrows at that. "That must be after my time. I dodn't remember any butterfly invasions." He was more surprised by the butterfly invasion than he was by her saying she was from another planet.

"What do you think of Fandom and Earth so far?"
