Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

Anders looked over from where he was trying to decide between several U.S. atlases.

"Find anything interesting?" he asked the girl he didn't recognize.

She can't help but grin a little at him. "They're English dictionaries; how interesting can they be? Although this one has a rather nice cover."

"Hey, depends on which one you get, right?" he says, leaning over to look at the cover. "Some of 'em have dirtier words in 'em than others do. Ooo. That is kinda neat."

Her short chuckle sounds a little nervous. And the fact that she just blushes at the mention of dirty words only deepens the blush. Great. "So I should go for the more comprehensive one, huh?"

Anders grins in a friendly manner. "Sure, why not? I mean, you might not ever need half the words in it, but in case you ever do, there they are, right?"

"This is very true," she says with a slight nod.

"I'm Sakurazaki, by the way." Introductions were typically more confortable conversation matter, anyway, not to mention just good manners.

Anders facepalms -- or facebooks, really, considering he has a stack of books under one arm and the atlas in the other. "Wow, my manners kind of suck. Sorry about that, Sakurazaki," he says, stumbling a little bit over her name in his attempts to get it right. "I'm Anders."

She grins slightly, quite familiar with what that stumble means. "Very good," she says with a nod. "It's nice to meet you, Anders. And don't worry about it; it does seem weird to still be introducing yourself, when it feels like you've gotten past all the introductions you think are in order. But, I swear, there's always someone else I don't know yet..."

"I've been here since September and I still don't know everyone, if that helps," Anders tells her. "I've lost count of how many times I have to tell someone where I'm from, or ask them where they're from, you know?"

"Exactly," she says with enthusiasm. "And then forgetting some of it...but I've been doing fairly well with remembering names and all that. This school's a lot smaller than my old one, so there's more pressure to actually remember things like that here." She grins slightly.

Okay, bookfair. That meant he should probably find a book. Something to give him a picture of where exactly he was seemed like a good idea.

He was poking through the reference section, looking for a reasonably recent atlas.

...The Tev'Meckian/English Dictionary which Xander is totally not eyeing covetously, since it's about 350 pages long and retails for more than he spends on a six month supply of Twinkies. Granted this one's used...

"Okay, a very geeky thing I've wanted since I was, like seven, and now have the pirated internets version of, but.... hardback..." Xander strokes the cover in a slightly questionable manner. "It's a dictionary for Doctor Lazarus' language, on Galaxy Quest."

"Little rich for my blood, even used." Xander flips it over and points at the price-sticker on the back -- which, admittedly, is more like his Twinkie/doughnut/coffee budget for a week, but still.

"Uh, remember how I was like, this big?" Bridge makes hand motions indicating baby-ferret-size. "And covered in fur and unable to talk or open things or fingerpaint or make toast or anything? And you carried me around and made sure I didn't get lost or in trouble or other bad stuff? Even after I ate your sandwiches?"

"Oh, that." Xander shrugs. "Not exactly your fault. Anyway, what else was I gonna do? Ship you off to a pet-boarding place? 'Hi, this is my boyfriend. Gimme a call when he turns human again. Oh, and could you keep him in a really big tank so he doesn't get squished when that happens?' "
