Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

"Okay, a very geeky thing I've wanted since I was, like seven, and now have the pirated internets version of, but.... hardback..." Xander strokes the cover in a slightly questionable manner. "It's a dictionary for Doctor Lazarus' language, on Galaxy Quest."

"Oh, *cool*!" Bridge says, and bounces excitedly. "You should get it."

"Little rich for my blood, even used." Xander flips it over and points at the price-sticker on the back -- which, admittedly, is more like his Twinkie/doughnut/coffee budget for a week, but still.

"Well," Bridge says thoughtfully. "Let me get it for you? Seeing as how I *totally* owe you for last week."

Xander cocks his head. "Why?"

"Uh, remember how I was like, this big?" Bridge makes hand motions indicating baby-ferret-size. "And covered in fur and unable to talk or open things or fingerpaint or make toast or anything? And you carried me around and made sure I didn't get lost or in trouble or other bad stuff? Even after I ate your sandwiches?"

"Oh, that." Xander shrugs. "Not exactly your fault. Anyway, what else was I gonna do? Ship you off to a pet-boarding place? 'Hi, this is my boyfriend. Gimme a call when he turns human again. Oh, and could you keep him in a really big tank so he doesn't get squished when that happens?' "

"Still," Bridge says. "Thank you."

"You're welcome. But it doesn't mean you owe me," Xander answers. "I figure it was just my turn. Scoobies and animal issues are kind of a thing. Willow dated a werewolf, Buffy dated...Angel..."

"I want to, though," Bridge insists, crossing his arms and giving his very best stubborn expression.

"That's pretty impressive," Xander says, tilting his head. "I mean it's got a little way to go before it beats Willow's resolve-face, but still damn good."

There may have been foot-stomping.

There may have been snickering.

"Okay, that one's a little more of a Buffy thing, and really needs a short skirt to pull it off. Which I'm not suggesting you couldn't wear, but..."

Okay, fine, pouty face it is.

"Dude, unfair. So totally unfair. You cheat like a cheating cheaty thing."

"S'not cheating. It's using the resources that are at my disposal."

"Cheating," Xander says again. But he hands over the book.

Bridge sticks his tongue out at Xander as he takes the book and tucks it under one arm. "Wanna look around some more?"

"Okay, but books and me are kind of-- ooh, 500 Home Woodworking Projects!"
