Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

Nadia flipped through an elementary Spanish text and giggled at the phrases they chose.

Dawn began hunting through boxes, wondering idly if she really needed more dictionaries.

Sam spotted Dawn and snuck up behind her as quietly as he could. "I should have known I'd find you in this area," he said, teasing.

Dawn jumped. "Okay, you are entirely too quiet." She swatted lightly towards Sam's arm.

"And of course you were in this section looking for me," she teased back, "and not at all because of the nifty books."
likethegun: (i'm smug and satisfied)

Sam laughed. "I could have been quieter. You wouldn't have even known I was here."

"Okay, I may have been drawn in by the nifty books," he admitted. "There are some really good ones here. Much better than accidentally finding myself in the romance section."

"Stealth roommate," Dawn snickered. "And, yeah, Giles always has the best books. By which I also mean boring and scary."

"Oooh, there's a romance...er, not that I read them," she assured him quickly.
likethegun: (i'm laughing while looking down)

"Please tell me he didn't bring any of the scary books with him?" Sam said, thinking of the current plague situation.

He couldn't help but laugh at Dawn's assurance. "Right, sure you don't. I bet you have a secret stash of them somewhere, full of swooning maidens and gallant lords in frilly shirts."

Re: Non-Fiction--Language

[identity profile] lilpunkinbelly.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I haven't seen any here," Dawn said, meaning the book sale, "but he wouldn't be Giles if he didn't have some kind of a stash."

She reddened. "I so do not! Besides, the swoony maidens are boring and just make me want to smack them. Not that the gallant lords are any better--I mean, they're always perfect, and polite, and they always fall madly in love with the heroine, never the heroine's sister, or her best friend..."

Yeah, she was ranting a little.

Re: Non-Fiction--Language

[personal profile] likethegun 2006-06-09 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam put his hand over his mouth to try to stifle his snickering. "Don't stop there, tell me more about these books you don't read."

"Oh, shut up," Dawn said, still bright red. "Or I won't give you what I made you, and then you'll be oh so sad."

likethegun: (i'm smug and satisfied)

"You made me something?" Sam asked, shifting gears appropriately, despite how adorable Dawn looked when she blushed.

She nodded, a little shyly. "Yep. It's back in our room." And something about that phrase made Dawn smile brightly at Sam. "No promises, but hopefully it'll help you a little bit on Saturday."

The way Dawn was looking at him made Sam smile in return. "Are you going to tell me what it is, or are you going to get revenge through suspense?"

Re: Non-Fiction--Language

[identity profile] lilpunkinbelly.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The suspense option was kind of appealing, but Dawn gave in. "I made you a necklace in nature magic yesterday. For, um, protection and focus. With runes. And you don't have to wear it if you don't want, because I know you're going up against things that might want to choke you and you shouldn't give them a handle," she paused for breath, "but maybe put it in a pocket or something?"
likethegun: (i'm smiling to the left)

Re: Non-Fiction--Language

[personal profile] likethegun 2006-06-09 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam wanted to say that not everything tried to choke him, but it didn't seem right to lie to Dawn when she'd done something so nice. "I'll definitely wear it," he said. "I'll find a spot where it can't be grabbed. Hopefully, we won't need much help," he added. "We've got a good group of fighters together."

"I know, which is why I didn't push harder to go," Dawn explained, maybe a little defensively, "but that doesn't mean I won't worry about you. And Dean and Buffy."

She hoped Buffy kept them safe.

Re: Non-Fiction--Language

[personal profile] likethegun 2006-06-09 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, we're going to be fine, all three of us," Sam said seriously. "I'm not going to let anything happen to Buffy, and if there's one person who can handle himself in any situation, it's Dean. Don't worry too much, all right?"

Re: Non-Fiction--Language

[identity profile] lilpunkinbelly.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Dawn nodded, even though she knew she would anyway. "Buffy can take care of herself, you know. She's stronger than she looks."
likethegun: (i'm listening to you)

"Just because she can take care of herself, it doesn't mean she should have to," Sam replied.

After investigating the history section, Sakurazaki flips through the Japanese books, wondering if any of them would be helpful in a reverse sort of way, since there aren't any "How To" texts for English. She was particularly disappointed not to see New Horizons, because that would have been hilarious.

Phoebe found a book on Celtic Language and Lore and was scanning the back of it to see if she knew this stuff already.

Pippi is totally not eyeing the books that teach French.

She's flipping through the Swedish/English dictionaries and wondering why they don't have any of the "good words" in them.

Walter picked up the book Nadia had been giggling at earlier as well as one that supposedly taught more colloquial Spanish (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071460861/qid=1149869678/sr=1-14/ref=sr_1_14/104-9626693-5266328?s=books&v=glance&n=283155).

Rory would normally love this section, but recent events had put reading foreign languages pretty far from the top of her list of Fun and Productive Things to Do.

So she avoided it like...er...the plague, so to speak.
