Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

Nadia picked up a Harlequin and started giggling at some of the phrasing.

"This doesn't look like the humor section." Pippi said as she stepped up next to Nadia and checked out the section.

"... Or, mebbe it is (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0515129844/sr=8-3/qid=1149868517)."

Nadia shook her head. She'd quote from the books, but ~~her mun's at work~~ she's giggling too hard.

"I think you should probably get that one then." Pippi said grinning.

Nadia nodded and tucked it under her arm. If nothing else, it would help with the love letter plot against Jamie. . . .

Pippi looked over a few of the titles in the section.

"Is it just me or do all of these covers have like... The same three guys on them?"

"Those guys totally get around."

Pippi is reading the back of something called "Time Swept".

"Yeah... I bet they do."

Nadia smiled at Pippi. "Anything in particular you're looking for?"

"Not really." she said, "I heard you laughing and I came over to see what it was all about."

"Ah." Nadia tilted her head. "I'm never sure what to look for in a book store. What do you like to read?"

"I dunno." Pippi said, "I ~~couldn't~~ didn't really read much until recently."

Anders? Was not in the Romance section on purpose.

That expression on his face? Confusion of the 'how the frak did I end up in this section' variety. Not intrigue. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Nuh uh.

Pippi is looking dubiously at the back of a novel she grabbed at random (http://dir.salon.com/story/sex/feature/2003/08/20/harlequin/index.html) when she noticed her (obviously) lost friend.

"Hi Anders!"

Anders made a motion that was in all actuality a random twitch but could very easily have been mistaken for him yanking his hand back from a book he'd been about to pick up. (No, really.) "Hey, Pippi! This is, um, this is a weird section."

"I suppose." Pippi said putting the book she'd been looking at back on the shelf. "They have some interesting views on pirates certainly."

"And ninjas," added Anders. "I mean -- so I've heard. Not that I actually, you know, looked."

"Are you looking for something to get Cally?" Pippi asked, "It's okay if you're having trouble shopping for her."

"Well, I am, actually," Anders said. It was true, but not necessarily the reason he was in this particular section. "I know she kind of has a thing for trashy novels. I'm just not sure what exactly qualifies as trashy."

"I'm not sure either, but if Nadia's reactions were any indication, I think you're in the right section... Do you know any of the authors she usually reads?"

"No," said Anders, with a face kind of like a lost puppy. "I have no idea. I'll take your word for it, though. You think if I just grab some stuff at random it'll work?"

"That's one way to do it." Pippi said grabbing the book she was just looking at and holding out to him. But if there's something she likes in particular? This section seems to have a lot of... Um. Subgenres?"

Anders looked over the back of the book, his eyebrows climbing higher and higher. "I have no clue about subgenres, but wow. Um. She might like this one, yeah."

Privately he thought he'd have to give it a read himself, but he wasn't going to say that.
