Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

"Well, I am, actually," Anders said. It was true, but not necessarily the reason he was in this particular section. "I know she kind of has a thing for trashy novels. I'm just not sure what exactly qualifies as trashy."

"I'm not sure either, but if Nadia's reactions were any indication, I think you're in the right section... Do you know any of the authors she usually reads?"

"No," said Anders, with a face kind of like a lost puppy. "I have no idea. I'll take your word for it, though. You think if I just grab some stuff at random it'll work?"

"That's one way to do it." Pippi said grabbing the book she was just looking at and holding out to him. But if there's something she likes in particular? This section seems to have a lot of... Um. Subgenres?"

Anders looked over the back of the book, his eyebrows climbing higher and higher. "I have no clue about subgenres, but wow. Um. She might like this one, yeah."

Privately he thought he'd have to give it a read himself, but he wasn't going to say that.

Pippi giggled.

"Yay! I chose wisely!" she said. "I mean like... These are all 'romance novels... but there's historical ones, and ones about pirates, and old west ones, and ones set in the future... And some about... something called 'NASCAR'..."

[[ooc: There ARE Nascar romance novels, I'm just at work and don't have time to search for them...]]

Anders dropped the book, caught it halfway to the ground, and dropped it again.

"There are NASCAR romance novels?"

It was hard to tell whether the look on his face was horrified or gleeful. It could have been both. Probably was.

Pippi grabbed the book the second time it was dropped.

She grabbed another book off the shelf (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0373770359/qid=1149895578) and handed both to Anders.

"Ya, here you go... Cally likes mechanical stuff ya? This seems to be about cars as well as... The other stuff."

Anders's eyebrow was halfway back to Caprica by now.

"Wow. Thanks. That one's definitely coming home with me."

Pippi is fairly pleased with herself. She should probably talk to Barbossa about doing an hour in the afternoon where she gives out relationship advice.

Not ever having been in a relationship herself was not an obstacle.

"Great! I'm sure Cally will love them."

"Hope so. Trust your taste over mine, anyway," Anders told her as he grabbed a couple more books off the shelves at random and added them to the stack. "This'll be the second time you helped me find her something. I'm gonna owe you big time, soon."

Pippi laughed.

"Wull... This was quite a bit simpler, far less smelly, and with fewer tentacles!"

"That is totally true," Anders agreed, laughing as well. "Far less smelly is always good."

"Hey, depends on which one you get, right?" he says, leaning over to look at the cover. "Some of 'em have dirtier words in 'em than others do. Ooo. That is kinda neat."

Re: Fiction--Romance

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess..." Pippi mused. "But there doesn't seem to be a rating system on the books like ya get on video games and movies so I can't tell which ones are more dirty then others... Which do you want? More or less dirty?"
