There was a table in the clearing, on which compasses, two copies of an island map, two clue sheets, two control cards, and written directions were laying in the open. Nimitz sprawled across the back of the table and watched with interested amusement as the students arrived.


Leadership and Outdoorsmanship:

First, please make sure to sign in. Once you’ve done this, collect a compass and divide into your groups. Each group gets a map and a control card. Complete the course marked on the map, stopping at each control flag to scan your card. I will meet you – with breakfast – at the end of the course.

Use your minicomps, compasses, and other conventional means. And always keep "leave no trace" in mind.

"I think I've gotten the hang of the minicomp." Tim said, calling up the GPS feature, but grimaced. "'Cept for these damn pop up ads."

Tim scowled at the minicomp. "No, if I knew how i'd gotten them maybe I'd be able to get rid of them. But the GPS is working. It says, we are here." He pointed to the screen, which should correspond with the map.

Sawyer stood and played with his compass while he waited for the others to show up. This was going to be fun, he liked this kind of stuff.

"Morning," Peter said to Sawyer as he began playing with his compass as well. "Shall we beat the other group there then?"

"Yes, we should" Gathering up the sheet and control card, he handed them to Peter, "You're in charge of watching those. I'll watch the compass."

Peter took the map and card. He started studying the map to determine distances and turns as well as any obstacles they might run across. "I don't think this should be too difficult," he said consideringly. "Once everyone's here, we should start off that way," he nodded in a direction, "for a bit."

Dean wandered over, the black and white kitten that had attached itself to him on the way to the library still riding on his shoulder. "Hope we don't get pudding'd on."

Anders didn't notice the kitten poking out of the pocket of his vest as he went to join up with his group. "What kind of pudding is it today, anyway?"

He nearly fell over when he felt a sharp pain in his calf, he glanced down and saw a kitten clinging to his leg, "Aw. Crap. Where'd this come from?" He looked desperately at the other two guys, who looked like they'd been attacked as well.

Kittens. Bleh.

Anders blinked, still completely oblivious (the natural state of the Anders) to the fuzzy head poking out of his pocket. "What? Dude, there's a tiny kitten on your leg."
