There was a table in the clearing, on which compasses, two copies of an island map, two clue sheets, two control cards, and written directions were laying in the open. Nimitz sprawled across the back of the table and watched with interested amusement as the students arrived.


Leadership and Outdoorsmanship:

First, please make sure to sign in. Once you’ve done this, collect a compass and divide into your groups. Each group gets a map and a control card. Complete the course marked on the map, stopping at each control flag to scan your card. I will meet you – with breakfast – at the end of the course.

Use your minicomps, compasses, and other conventional means. And always keep "leave no trace" in mind.

She rather wondered if the Tree Cat spoke regular cat. Because she wasn't sure if they'd see Professor Harrington today and she had to tell somebody that Pip probably wouldn't be in class today.

Nimitz flicked his tail, regarding Pippi with his head cocked to one side. It took him a moment to figure out that she was speaking to him. Sitting up on his true-feet, his hands went into motion. //Don't speak 'cat',// he signed, //but can speak Standard.//

And he hoped that Pippi could read sign.

Honor is in the clearing, clad in track pants, tee shirt, and well-worn martial arts shoes. As the first group of students arrives, she is practicing one of her coup de vitesse katas. By the time the second group arrives, she joins the class for breakfast.

Nimitz can be seen around the outskirts of the clearing, chasing squirrels for sport. He's already had his breakfast.
