Library [06/08]

Rory managed to make it into the library fairly early, dragging the damn book with her as well as her laptop, with a cup of coffee in hand and four wide-eyed, fluffy kittens firmly attached to the legs of her jeans.

The library was open, and would likely remain so for most of the day.

"So at least we know now that the random weird stuff isn't so random," Dawn said, making some notes. What was that word? She squinted and tried to determine exactly what kind of animal she was looking at. "That's good, Jamie. Anything on butterflies?"

"They have green blood and the smallest butterfly has a wingspan of 1.5 cm," One of the Jamies mentions from his book on butterflies. "But I'm betting that's not what we're looking for."

She smiled. "No, not really. But it's informative," she leaned over to look at the book, "and ooh, pretty."

"Hey, look at us. Stickbugs and Meerkats working together," another Jamie said from where he's sitting.

Suddenly his face grows pale.

"OMG. It's really the apocalypse, isn't it?"

"Hopefully not," Dawn answered honestly. "Those usually involve someone getting dead, and I'd really like to avoid that."

Suddenly something clicks with all of the Jamies and they suddenly look *really* scared.

They all huddle around a computer and do a google search for "En Sabah Nur".

When nothing comes back they all breath a collective sigh of relief and go back to their reseach.

"What was that about?" Dawn asked, seeing the mass exodus to the computer, then the return.

"Back where I'm from there was mutant from ancient Egypt who called himself 'Apocalypse'," one of he Jamies explained. "Turns out he's not in this world's history, as far as I can tell so we don't have to deal with him."

"Oh," Dawn said, eyes wide. "I'm glad he's not here. Because a person named after a world endy event can't possibly be good."

"Oh yeah. He's a nasty one," Jamie said nodding seriously. "I hope he never comes here. Find anything else?"

Dawn frowned. "Something about past revisited and...mixed? No, that's not right. Moses...past...lightened...changed" She almost tossed the book aside in frustration, then double checked something. "Plagues!"

Dawn grinned proudly. "Ladies and gentlemen, we have plagues. Well, kinda plaguettes, but yes!"

"Moses and the plaguettes? What is it? Some kind of Old testament rock band?"

Dawn gave him a Look. And snagged a doughnut. "Yes, Jamie, we're dealing with a rock band. Don't you see?"

She said, getting up to pace, gesturing as she spoke and it all connected, "We've got a lessening of the plagues--water into pudding instead of blood, butterflies instead of locusts, kittens instead of...well, I don't know what the kittens are instead of," she frowned and stopped mid-pace, stumped.

"Go on. Your on a roll. We'll figure out the kittens later," Jamie said moving a kitten away from attacking a jelly filled.

"So, if I'm thinking about this right," Dawn said, taking Jamie at his word, "we're due for another eight days of weirdo plagues, culminating in some big thing, unless we stop whatever's going on before then."

"Great. More weird stuff. I personally am hoping for a river of cream to go with the coffee pond," Jamie said hopefully. "Oh wait? This will probably end badly, right? Nevermind. So if it's a plauge, what's the source?"

"I'm gonna go with whatever it was that Rory read in the common room," Dawn decided, "even though I don't know exactly what it was she said."

"Well I wasn't there so I can't help you. Do we have what she read? Something we can compare it to?"

Dawn nodded. "We've got the book, and a few reference books. The problem is that my Ancient Egyptian is very sketchy and there's a lot the dictionary doesn't cover."

"Do you read hieroglyphics?" She asked, hopefully.

"Unfortunately? No. But we can take the shotgun approach to this," Jamie said thoughtfully. "Let's take a look at what Rory read and show all of my dupes the heiroglyphics involved and have them go through the reference books to see if we can find anything that matches. If you know some Egyptian maybe you can narrow down what we need to look for."

She pulled the book over and pointed to a specific cartouche. "I think this is the name for the guy we've offended, but I'm not sure. Look for anything with this symbol, and I'll see."

Jamie takes the book and lets off a high pitched whistle. "Dudes! See this symbol thingie here? It's a car douche. We need to find it in the books. Go!"

"It's not a car..." Dawn shook her head. "Nevermind. So, that's a pretty handy talent you've got there."

"Yeah. I never have any problems scaring up people for a card game," Jamie agreed. "Plus I'm never lonely."

"Isn't it awfully easy to tell when you're bluffing?"
