Library [06/08]

Rory managed to make it into the library fairly early, dragging the damn book with her as well as her laptop, with a cup of coffee in hand and four wide-eyed, fluffy kittens firmly attached to the legs of her jeans.

The library was open, and would likely remain so for most of the day.

"I hadn't really noticed," Rory replied, arching a brow. "There aren't problems with, um, firewalls or anything?"

Rory? Knew next to nothing about computers.

"Not for me," Willow grinned.

"Is that legal?" Rory asked fretfully.

"It's world savey," Willow replied, since that explanation had worked pretty well with Peter too. "Okay, for the record? You do not want to know what websites first come up when you research Egyptian symbols, bandages, and things that hang around high school aged boys."

Rory blinked. "Dirty?"

"Oh God, there's videos," Willow said, making a look of horror. She quickly closed that window. "Let me try something else."

"Ewwww," Rory said, nose wrinkling. "Not even a good kind of dirty. I didn't even know - okay, yeah, window's shut, new topic, yay."

Willow made with more clicking and typing. "Oh! Okay. Here's something about... really bad translations that must've been shoved through Bablefish a few times before making it to the webpage. But I think it's about that symbol."

"Oh, good!" Rory said, peering over Willow's shoulder. "Okay, yeah, thank you Babelfish or whatever because this is worse than when I try to translate stuff."

"Too bad we can't get somebody to read the original for us," Willow said. She skritched one of the wee kittens in her lap. "Could you read it, Missy Meowerton? I bet you could. Yes, you could!"

Willow then remembered herself and went back to reading. "Okay, looks like they're talking about the release of bad and/or dark energy."

"That's what Bridgey found!" Rory said excitedly. "There's dark energy on me and on Anakin and on the book and probably on other people too!"

Willow looked proud. "Go me and my translating of translations! Okay, if I'm reading this right, the energy is connected to the words. Which makes sense because very often the mojo is in the... I've got nothing alliterative to go with that. Music suggests itself but there was no singing.

"Anyway, whoever was there when you said the words probably got the ick all over them. Curse, black magic, all around badness. This is great!"

Willow looked a bit too happy about the news she'd just given.

Rory stared. "Okay, so everyone in the common room gets the ick. That would be me, Anakin, Alec, Cal, Charl...." She trailed off, paling a little. "The people getting the nightmares."

"Exactly!" Willow said, nodding her head with enthusiasm. "This is wonderful!"

"This is horrible!" Rory countered. "But yay for knowing more, I guess."

"Oh! No! Sorry!" Willow looked sheepish. "I meant this is wonderful because I think I know a spell for this. I'll have to modify one that I found back home in Giles's... actually it doesn't matter where I found it. Point is that maybe I could de-ick the icky."

"Oooh!" Rory looked very relieved. "You think so? Because that'd be awesome, if we can tackle that bit of the mess."

"I'm sure I could," Willow said. She started to write things down in her notebook. "I'll have to special order some things but thanks to the magic of the internet I can have them here by tomorrow. Light the stinky herbs, chant the chants, left foot in, left foot out - poof! Ickless."

"Do you need any help? I don't do magic stuff, um, at all, but I can like, hold things and provide coffee," Rory offered.

"Coffee after would be of the yum," Willow said. "If everything works out I should be able to try this tomorrow night. I know it's not right away, but maybe it's something?"

"It's totally perfect," Rory assured her. "Thank you so, so, so much."

"It's what Willows do," she said. She noticed the time. "Oh! I have to meet Peter. And then there's my workshop with Ms. Calendar. Maybe I should skip the meeting tonight? Get to ordering the things of supernatural fun?"

"That makes sense," Rory nodded. "I'll just pass on the info to everyone, so you don't need to be there."

Willow put her stuff away, taking care not to hurt any of the kittens that were clinging. "You can email or call if you need me. I'll do the same if anything comes up. I don't know if I can stop it all but hopefully I can at least dial it down from 11."

"And really, that's all we're looking for," Rory replied. "We'll figure out how to stop it all, though."
