Fandom Library, Wednesday, November 12th

Huh. There were a bunch of music books out around the library. Arden found one for guitars, basses, drums, even keyboards. Books about music, books teaching people how to play the instruments, books about caring and maintaining them. Even books about cutting a demo and sending it around to record labels.

Arden wasn't sure if the gremlins were starting a band, or there was something else in the library that was thinking about it (possibly even the library itself?), but all afternoon she heard strains of music coming from different areas, sometimes just warmup exercises and chords, sometimes whole songs.

Couldn't find the musicians when she went looking for them, of course. But could definitely hear them.

"Hey!" she called at one point. "Seven Nation Army?"

A long moment of silence, and from over near the biographies section, the slow reverberations of a bass guitar. Bum bumbum bum bumbuuuuumbuuummm. Bum bum bumbum bum bumbumbuuummm...

"What if you started decorating for winter," Arden suggested, biting back a smile. "You know, fake snow, icicles, snowflakes, that kind of thing. Maybe you can even sneak in some subtle Christmas stuff in there where they're not looking."

"But winter is cold," Gray whined. "Christmas is the only tolerable part of it. Science." He presented a takeout container to her with a flourish. "Apple pie waffles."

"Ooooh!" Arden said, reaching for the waffles. "Delicious." She helped herself to a forkful of waffle. "But I'm just saying, at least you'd be decorating a little bit."

"Maybe," Gray allowed. "I could try." A beat. "And then Raiden might appear with a squirt bottle. Hey, where's the music coming from?"

"Just make sure it's winter stuff and you'll hopefully be okay," Arden said. Which, you know, might or might not be true. "Your guess is as good as mine. For awhile, the drums were coming from the children's books, but nothing was actually there when I went to check and since then, it's moved elsewhere, too."

Raiden would argue it wasn't winter yet, and that would technically be true, but it was already cold*, okay?

"Maybe the books are forming a band," Gray suggested.

Surely Raiden would see this as a compromise that would get Gray to stop draping himself over tables and bewailing the lack of Christmas! Two weeks was a long time, Raiden.

"That's one of the least horrifying possibilities, yeah!"
