Writing Workshop - 6/6 - Journalism Classroom - Tuesday Morning

Chloe was on her laptop when everyone started coming into the classroom, checking various news sources for 6/6/06 madness. Once everyone had arrived, she finally set the laptop aside.

"Good morning! Okay, so today we're going to sort of finish up our trip through the wonderful world of non-fiction by talking about one of my personal favorite kinds of writing - news stories. It really is an art to be able to give all the necessary information about a story in the tiny space that newspapers and magazines usually give a reporter. Editors can be ruthless people, let me tell you."

"So, what I want you to do for me today is to give me 50-100 words about something that happened while you all were in the cabins these past two weeks. It can be something really simple, or something amusing, but the only thing is, it has to be true. We're going to be talking about making up the news next week."

Marie thought about the things that happened while she was in the cabins and started making a list of things she could write about.

Cheerleading -- not exactly about the cabins, but happened while we were there.

Doing radio with Willow -- same as above

Hanging out around campfires -- interesting?

She chewed on her pen cap and considered.

The only things Alanna could think of were the prank wars and Bridge's ferriting. She sighed and began to tap out a pattern with her pen.

Janet started making notes about the evils of pressgang cheerleading.

And just to be on the safe side, she also started making notes about how being an early riser meant you got to use the hot water first.

Elizabeth made a note in big block letters at the top of her page COLD SHOWERS.

Janet giggled. "That's what you get for sleeping in?" she suggested.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes, nudging Janet slightly. "Oh, yes. Because I was totally sleeping in."

"By my standards, you were!" exclaimed Janet, sticking her tongue out at Liz. "You were lazy."

Alanna was in no way randomly glancing over at Charlie as she worked.

"Hey, Chloe? I'm sorry I wasn't here last week, but there was a family emergency."

OOC: RL/access issues, actually.

Janet nodded. "We had a few sleepless nights, but everything's turned out all right in the end. Is there something I need to make up?"

SUPPOSED THEFT OF CABIN
By Charles J. Kawalsky

Last week, the Meerkat cabin appeared to be stolen. The Meerkat residents were upset over their loss, and officials were unable to locate the cabin. The neighboring Stickbug cabin and its residents were blamed for the disappearance due to a prank war going on between the two neighborly groups. The Stickbugs vehemently denied any involvement in the theft.

"I did not steal that cabin, Meerkat cabin," Cameron Mitchell commented earlier today.

When asked for alternative theories, Stickbug resident John Crichton said, "Maybe it was the giraffes. They're always after me lucky charms."

Officials stated that the cabin was later returned to the rightful owners undamaged. There have been no official arrests, although there are some detentions lined up for the Stickbug cabin. Any and all accessories to the supposed theft have remained undiscovered.

An anonymous source claimed that there are suspicions that the Meerkats staged the theft of their own cabin to gain attention and to get the Stickbugs in trouble.
