Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that fh_weather is reporting. Yes, I'm modding the weather. Admin privilege.]

"Isabel is doing fine this evening," she grinned. "Life is very good. Date number two is set for Monday."

"Yay, date two!" Dawn cheered and did a little victory dance. "Do you know what you're doing?"

"We're going canoeing, and having a picnic and possibly swimming. Basically we're making a day of it." Isabel did a rather restrained version of the victory dance in her seat. "You're pretty happy tonight. What's up?"

"Nothing in particular," Dawn shrugged, "but I have a cute, sweet, nice and smart boyfriend who thinks it's cool that I can speak and read Sumerian, I told Buffy about the sister thing, and I did nothing today. It's been a good couple of days."

"That was me yesterday. And today still even. Life is good." Isabel frowned. "Should we be worried?"

Dawn glanced quickly over both shoulders and did a scan of the group. "Maybe?"

"That's what I thought. I'm not used to things going well," Isabel admitted. "I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. For something to go wrong. I still half expect the FBI to show up now that everyone knows about the alien thing." She raised an eyebrow. "Can we make some sort of sacrifice to the gods of good times so they keep happening?"

"They don't take anything from this plane of existence as a sacrifice," Dawn said, shaking her head. "Although they do like Hungarian goulash."

"We're heading back to the dorms on Sunday. What do you say Monday evening after I get back from my date..." Isabel grinned as she said that. "We whip them up a batch. Just in case."

"Goulash night it is, then," Dawn smiled. "Unless your date runs long and you decide to do it Tuesday."

"That's always a possibility," she admitted. "I guess I'll have to wait and see. So did you see any of the Stickbugs and their gnomes? I can't believe how cute they were."

"No, I missed them," Dawn pouted, "but I still got snagged for detention. I ask you, is that fair?"

"No, it's not. I'm sorry," Isabel said. "I'd volunteer to go with you. But I prefer to avoid detention at this place."

"Detention varies. Peter glittered tools when he had detention," she said then paused. "I wound up having nightmares. It really depends on who's in charge."

"Nightmares would be very, very bad," Dawn said, eyes wide. "But glittery tools wouldn't be so bad."

"Tell me about it," Isabel shuddered. "It was pretty bad. But most of the time they're really not that bad. So don't worry."

"Only a little bit, because the teacher that ran my detention is gone. So I don't think nightmares are an issue any longer."

"Oh, that's good," she said, relieved. "I didn't even think to check who has detention."

Isabel rolled her eyes. "Unfortunately that's one of detentions special thrills. You never know who's going to be running it until you walk into the room. And then it's too late to run screaming for the door."

"You're not exactly filling me with confidence here, Isabel," Dawn told her.

"Sorry Dawn. It's just...Detention is a bit of a sensitive spot with me. I got picked for the lottery and had a really bad detention right when a lot of really rough personal stuff had happened," she explained. "Ironically enough, as bad as it was, that detention was the best thing that happened to me."

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Dawn said, instantly contrite and reaching out to Isabel. "But why was having nightmares a good thing?"
